Guest neil_wiles Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 1310 Fisrt it would be useful to know what vehicle you are refering to. If you add your details into the signature then we will be able to help although I think if its a galaxy MK1 then the problem is almost certainly going to be the master cylinder failed, normally following a change of pads during a service where the fluid has been forced back from the piston to the master cylinder. This reverses the seal lips and effectively causes mas brake failure. Quote
familyman Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 The failed handbrake might suggest a caliper problem ,as for the seals in the master cylinder , i thought that no brake fluid was pushed back into the cylinder due to the abs system?(clamp on flexible hose-open bleed nipple-wind in piston-fit new pads-top up system?) might be wrong on that one though! Charliemuttley Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 If your rear pads have gone (grinding noise) then your hand brake wouldn't work anyway. Try pumping brakes and see if the pedal holds pressure- if it holds then just a caliper/pad problem. If it doesn't then it is a master cylinder problem. Quote
