NikpV Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 IIRC 95 - 00 mk1 might be 9900-06 mk2 but was some over lap eg some mk2 had lap belt in middle centre seat, some have solid head rests like the mk1 according to the master mechanic (Jim) at JR Fords reckon some less obvious parts also changed slowly Quote
big_kev Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 Considerations when buying a Gal... Does it have a log book.....if no walk away No Engine Spray Shield underneath....walk away Oily handmarks inside engine.....walk away Does the seller appear to be a Gypo......walk away If Diesel and the engine sounds like mine....walk away If petrol and the engine sounds like mine....run away quickly Does mileage appear very low for age.....walk away 4X4 if no driveshaft to rear axle....walk away Doesn't start...get your multimeter out....or possibly walk away Hope this helps Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 If petrol and the engine sounds like mine....run away quickly :16: ;) ;) ;) ;) Quote
fosterman Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 Can all these ideas/faults/thoughts be gathered up into a 'comprehensive' checklist. Failing that, there are several websites which give a fairly comprehensive insight into possible faults. .....And there are various companies who can verify vehicle condition. ......Suck your thumb, feel the wind. Best option though is view with a 'tame' mechanic, or an experienced 'Gal' 'Shaz' or 'Bammer' owner. Quote
mumof4 Posted January 11, 2007 Author Report Posted January 11, 2007 I shall do the list tomorrow.......shall be edited though so it will be simple and easy to read. Quote
fosterman Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 Maz, you are a star, look forward to your list of faults/ problems to watch for. My Gal going to car doctor tomorrow to resolve regular coolant loss ??? Suspect fault in pressure cap - suffice to say am trusting 'tame' mechanic , rather than frauds. Quote
Guest Cepheus Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 I can understands that, but still a Ford! Never mind. Nope, it's a VW. No electric seats as the front seats have swivelling function (most anyway) and rear ones come out.The swivel mechanism was removed from the MK2 if the front seats had LCD screens fitted in the headrest as part of the standard fit multimedia pack, due to the posibility of wire loom entanglement. Some early and/or lower trim MK1 models didn't have swivel either (including Si) but with them being lower trm levels wouldn't have had electric seats anyway. Quote
NikpV Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 doesnt the centre console for the vhs/dvd block the seat rotation (just behind handbrake) ? Quote
Guest Cepheus Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 hmmm ... dunno ... where's Bleeno when you need him? BLEENO .... DO YOUR SEATS STILL HAVE THE SWIVEL LEVER ON THEM???  Quote
Guest wolfie Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 swivel seat option is supposedly lost if journey pack two, optional leather or heated seats are fitted? Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 both of my galaxys didnt have this feature, multimedia fitted on both would make it hard to see where im going facing the wrong way  Quote
El Dingo Posted January 27, 2007 Report Posted January 27, 2007 (edited) Mine = Mk2 = leather = no swivel seats <_< (no multimedia either) :19: Edited January 27, 2007 by El Dingo Quote
tim-spam Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 Foot rubbers, you can tell if a car has been clockedVAGCOM will also tell you if the car has been clocked on some TDI's - there is an independent 'odometer' reading stored in the ECU, and this should normally be within around 5% of the reading on the instrument cluster. mumof4 Posted January 29, 2007 Author Report Posted January 29, 2007 Blimey..i never knew that...but how many peeps will vag com a car that they are looking over? Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 VAGCOM and ford TIS cd's should come as standard on a galaxy! all owners should have them lmao MJR Quote
sanjsanj Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 Check that it has the infrared alarm sensors just above the front seatbelt height adjusters, on the b-pillar, with a sort of speaker grille on it)It should be standard on all gals (not LX) but i have a ghia that doesn't have it! Check that the spare wheel holder works properly, there are many stories about it not working properly. Look carefully and try to find Subtle differences of paint colour between different body panels. As many cars now have metallic paint, it is very hard to match the same colour. If you notice a difference, it may have been repainted, and so must have been DAMAGED, maybe crashed into!! Make sure there are bills to back up the service history. These are much harder to fake than the stamp book. Follow it up in chronological order. Check mainly, the drivers door and ignition barrel for signs of damage or repair. If somethings fishy, it may have been broken into!!! Check the numbers etched onto all of the windows. If one doesn't match, then it may have been smashed/broken into at some point! HERES ONE FOR YOU: How can you check that the booster heater is working? I mean, its April at the moment so it'll never get below 10 C...... VAG-COM? what if i dont have it? I dont think the dealer wil be happy about me trying to bypass the temp sensor under the bonnet...  ! So how? Quote
