Guest freebird Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 thanks again guys for trying to help out, yes I've registered with the "breakers" site and I've had no response as yet with listings of parts etc. saying that, even if I got a gear box, I'm not in a position to get it done.......car would still need towing to a garage and with labour and all, it'll prob cost an arm and a leg..thanks.. Guest freebird Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 BTW Matt, don't worry, I've been called worse  Quote
Guest freebird Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 No Hun I live in Liverpool. We'd gone shopping in Wales which is only a 30 odd mile run.Stayed over the night at Travel Lodge and on Xmas Eve Morn, it would only go into reverse and not drive !My AA cover was only for the previous Fiat I'd had so as I wasn't covered they wanted Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 so you have the galaxy @ home now in liverpool .....have you had a autobox place look at the box as yet(or was it just a longshot one thought it would cost Quote
NikpV Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 as a long shot - how about the fluid level in the box (might have missed post on this already) looking at auto box site - fluid level needs to be enough to drive - wonder if allowing to warm up allows fluid to expand - cheaper than new box Quote
Guest freebird Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 I tried a few local auto gear box places but they're not back after Xmas break, so the main place here on Merseyside is Northwest Autos in Bootle, and it was them who suggested it would prob need the Quote
steve67car Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 sorry to hear of your dilema but hes a taxi driver works nights not gonna be easy but he needs his sleep so grind him down with relentless phone calls as he clearly states money back in his ad if not happy that is legally binding i know you are thinking about yourself and the kids but any grief he may/maynot give you aint nothing compered to what you have already gone through what about the ex will he not help out finally i would invest some of the rest of the money with some one i know to try to persuade the low life its the right thing to do in making the situation right ( wink wink) we are with you on this awkward dilema Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 ..the thing is...the box worked once to drive her (i remembered that time!) away from the seller - aye? so the actual box might be ok  and that something additional to the box has a fault.maybe the fluid is to lowmaybe the selector cable needs replacing/adjusting..and what about various switches/electronics and inhibitors? MJR Quote
Guest freebird Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 Steve 67, I know in the ideal world I should be able to sue etc and maybe put some pressure on but in reality, it can't be done....too many re-percussions. I know I feel the same mate ! Matt, The prob is, I have only been able to get hold of North West Tranmissions, the other garages are away for Xmas, and they have suggested that it would be expensive for them to tow it to them, and the repair would be expensive too. Say, someone does tow it and then checks it out and gives me an estimate for more that I can afford ?...I've then got to try and get it towed back home and I'm back to square 1 ! I'm going to try and put it back on to Ebay and just be honest with the description. I sent him one more email last night, stating that he should honour his statement to refund..etc..and letting him know that it's already cost me nearly Quote

Guest freebird Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 Radio two, that's a very kind offer, thank you. I'm phoning around again, tomorrow to see if the garages are back in after the xmas break. If not, it looks like it will be next Tuesday before I can ask around re someone looking at it ! I've been trying to word something to even put it back on to Ebay, with reference to the previous "owners" description etc. I'm thinking that if could even get back some of what I paid out, then, I havn't lost all !I've been told that even having the oil put in these automatics can run expensive ? with the cost and ammount of oil needed and the labour? Having no knowledge of automatics I didn't dream everything would be so expensive! Not that I have much knowledge of manuals I hasten to add, it's just that I've managed most repairs etc in my stride in the past but it seems like the Galaxy can be expensive to maintain? I honestly think that I have to cut my losses now and try to sell, asap.thanks,Freebird x Quote
steve67car Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 come you auto drivers out there have a look at you auto box and find the dip stick location for this lady so at least she can check her oil levels and if memory serves me auto box and pas fluid are the same BUT CORRECT ME IF WRONG so come oil fill point and dip stick location (and thats not the driver looking into engine bay type dip stick :32: Quote

Guest freebird Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 Yeh, dipstick's about right..........If the cap fits! I'll mhold my hands up here guys.........I honestly don't know the first thing...not making much sense of your lingo, fraid. I've put oil in the manual...changed a wheel......checked water levels.......and I guess that's about as technical as I get....... The kids keep me busy and my lttle one who's disabled is 24/7 so there's never been the time to learn about the running of the car etc..........and I'm too knackered to try now ! I do really appreciate all the help you are trying to give me though, I just wish that I could do the things you're suggesting.....it's not in a drive way, as there's no off road parking, it's half on/off the pavement in a small terraced St. where the neighbours measure their allocated space for their own car!...if you get my drift..........there's four houses on the block and the cars are bumper to bumber.......oh the joys of City life eh ! I feel so stupid not even being able to check these things out that you're talking about, and no doubt there's someone out there who's offay with Galaxy Automatics, who would take a couple of minutes to say, " oh it's the such and such" but unless I can rub the gravy dish... and get this "genie" to appear outside the house then I'm stcuk ! It's so frustrating cos, some one who knows what they're doing could have a lovely car for themselves ! Thanks for trying guys... Quote
