dodge Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 As a fairly new Galaxy user not sure what bits have allready fallen off the car.The power steering belt is getting wet and slipping leading to intermitant and mostly hair raising loss of pwr assistance. Should there be a splash guard fitted inside the o/s wheel arch? Or perhaps underneath the engine? The belt looks fairly exposed viewed through the wheel arch. Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 There is a massive undertray. This protects everything from the elements, and forms an acoustic deadening shield. Without it, the belt will slip. There are arch guards too....looks like you have a fairly ropey example? Quote
Dave-G Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 you need to acquire an underguard - or tray. I know that the old model's tray will fit the new[tdi],so look for a gal in a breakers yard. I DONT know if they're engine specific. make sure you get the fixing bolts, and prepare yourself with 6 hands, 'cos they're *+ Quote
Guest Andyjflet Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 !!!!!! Get this sorted asap, we bought a well used 2000 W zetec from a hire company and had exactly the same problem. My wife hit another car as this happened and it could have been very nasty, luckily they were going slow. Anyway, someone had failed to replace the undertray on the vehicle which meant when you turned a corner water from the tyre splashed onto the belt and obviously the steering goes into super stiff mode.Dont want to alarm you but could be a life threatener, if you bought it from a garage then take it back and shout at them until they fix it. You bought it it a dangerous condition !! Quote
Guest Paul Collins Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Is this undertray engine specific? I have a Sharan 2.0 CL with no undertray, I live in a very floody area and have never had a problem. Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 Fitted to all variants. Highly necessary as stated above. Quote
dodge Posted January 14, 2004 Author Report Posted January 14, 2004 Spent hours on line trying to locate secondhand undertray,no joy.Ford supplied part NoF1096714. Fitted and no more hair raising loss of steering. Quote
