rushy Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 Hi all, my electric sunroof has thrown a wobbly. first of all it was open, but wouldn't close. then it jamme with the inner roof cover, which i managed to get out. now i have had to used the emergency winding handle to get the thing shut. But even then, it woul close one sie, but i had to pull the other side down myself. when trying to close it with the switch, it just makes a clicking noise as if it off runners or something? i know its not neeed this time of year, and it is shut, and doesn't seem to be leaking, but is this a diy fix? thanks Quote
NikpV Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 think you'll have to pioneer - can't recall anybody having done one on here  Quote
Guest wolfie Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 the man to talk to about this would be Gregers he changed the sunroof out on his Galaxy after it did a similar thing! Quote
NikpV Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 Ah yes here it is no solution in this thread though  Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 i changed a old leckie roof on my mk2 granny and as long as you can open the roof fully to take motor out ,it might be a simple diy job try here is for volvos, but will give some more insight  Quote
gregers Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 yes it can be fixed.....ive done it and its a pig of a job....im sure i posted it here somewhere but hey ho YOU NEED TO GET HOLD OF A DONER SUNROOF BEFORE STARTING.you have to take the headlining out to be able to get to the sunroof runners and everything else thats there,it sounds like the worm on one side has stripped exactly like mine had done, undo all the bolts for the seatbelts etc etc, take out all the lights(rememmbering where everything goes)and gently prise the trim off,MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CLEAN HANDS OR WEAR GLOVES or the lining gets grubby start at the rear hatch and gently lower the lining down once dropped iirc its masticed to the front windscreen use a filling knife to gently remove from said windscreen, once down GENTLY REMOVE HEADLINING THROUGH THE REAR HATCH PLZ BE CAREFUL i ended up running down the road with it coz the wind got up,once out put it somewhere safe, now you can see the sunroof in all its glory,i took it all out as it was far easyier to work on then in situ,ONCE YOUVE STUDIED THE INNARDS OF IT you will understand how things work you will need to take the doner sunroof apart CAREFULLY to see how it all works iirc the worm runners are not interchangeable ie left is left and right is right watch how it works on the runners and how the guides work coz its a matter of trying to line everything up,WHATEVER YOU DO CHECK,CHECK AND CHECK AGAIN.then if all has gone well its a case of putting everything back in the reverse order, but make sure the roof is working exactly right before replacing the headlining. i done this about 3 years ago so im sorry if its a bit up and downif i can be of any help then pm me and ill try to help in any way possible. TOOLS NEEDED A GREAT BIG PAIR OF GONADS  A TORX SCREWDRIVER soz cant rememmber what size various screwdrivers a BOOK ON SWEARINGa nice dayand a missus who dosent want to go shopping when the cars in bits :D took me nearly a whole weekend to sort it out and i got it working perfectly with no leaksGOOD LUCK REGARDS gregers Quote
rushy Posted December 20, 2006 Author Report Posted December 20, 2006 Thanks for that. It can wait till the new year and a decent day!! Where did you get the donnor sunroof? Quote

Guest gooner52 Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 hes also a whizz on i.c.e aswell. right time of year is ruddy cold out there   :o Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 just seen this on ebay sunroof motor  Quote
gregers Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 its probably not the motor he needs if the one hes got at the mo is clicking then it suggests to me that the worm thread either side of the sunroof is stripped,he needs a complete sunroof mechanism by the sounds of it  Quote
