Another?Maybe! Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 Well, I'm sorry to say that having had Galaxies for the last 5 years we are now getting rid! We have enjoyed our time with what my son calls an upmarket Tranny van but decided that we no longer have the need for 7 seats as there is never more than 4 in the car and usually it's only us 2. The back 2 seats live under the stairs gathering dust...actually they have been protected by the Asda barbecue covers we bought some time back after suggestion by another member (sorry, can't remember who but a great idea). As you know I was toying with the idea of buying warranty insurance as the current car is now 3 years old and out of Ford's warranty but I have been tempted by the 5 years warranty offered by Hyundai(!!)...why don't all manufacturers have the bottle to offer 5 years? So we are going smaller & buying a Tucson Limited, collecting after Christmas. And we have 5 years free servicing as part of the deal. I'll be sad to see the Gal go but lugging the 2 seats back in on Sunday reminded me how user-unfriendly this is. I've had great fun being part of this site...I haven't found an equivalent one for the Tucson yet, not one thats mostly British anyway...had great advice when needed, pitched in with opinions on occasion and generally enjoyed reading all the stuff on here. The site is on my 'Favourites' and I don't intend to remove it as I will still be checking what you guys (and gals!) get up to from time to time. Thanks for the company. PeteR PS. Guess you will now take the opportunity to take the 'mick' off me but I don't mind. I have now returned to a local garage and have the great warranty/ peace of mind. Will keep you posted from time to time, especially if it all goes pear shaped! Quote
Bigjeeze Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 Well Pete a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do!! Good luck and stay in touch. BJ Quote

Guest Cepheus Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 Good luck with the new wheels! Bloke in work has one and loves it (especially the 5 year warranty and free servicing!). He previously had a Freelander and rates the Tucson far higher for drivability and reliability. Keep in touch - once a Gal owner, always a Gal owner  Quote

Another?Maybe! Posted December 20, 2006 Author Report Posted December 20, 2006 Thanks for the good wishes, will post some pics provided the fog has gone after I collect the motor (and I've studied how to do the posting!), and will keep you informed on satisfaction and reliability. We had also considered a Freelander but too expensive new and has poor reputation for reliability & a C-RV but the local Honda franchise obviously didn't want to do a deal as they offered me at least Quote
tiny Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 The problem with hyundais is the depreciation. Their residual value goes down quicker than a ten quid hooker! (Can I say that on here?) The 5 year warranty is good but by the end of the 5 years all you can trade it in against is another Hyundai. Although to be fair the Tucson doas look a half decent motor. Quote

The solution to this is to keep it for 10 years or until it expires (whichever is sooner, terms and conditions apply, subject to status). Quote
Another?Maybe! Posted December 31, 2006 Author Report Posted December 31, 2006 If I stick some pics on can someone tell me how to obliterate the number plate first...serious answers please! And as for depreciation, the Gal went down from a purchase price of Quote
jkspoff Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 Hope you enjoy your new motor, keep us informed of how it goes, maybe a quick review once you've had it a short while so we can maybe consider one too in the future. Why can the Koreans offer such good packages, 5 years servicing, 5 years warranty, maybe its down to the huge scale of these companies and the array of other goods they manufacture too. Some Japanese and Korean companies make the likes of Ford seem small. Hopefully as the market gets more and more competitive over the years then other manufacturers will have to follow suit, and start producing a more reliable product. Quote
jkspoff Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 An interesting link to the largest/highest value companies in the world, Ford rank down at 133rd, whilst a lot of Japanese manufacturers are up there near the top. http://www.forbes.com/lists/2006/18/06f2k_...-2000_Rank.html Quote
Guest Cepheus Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 If I stick some pics on can someone tell me how to obliterate the number plate first...serious answers please! Either import the photo into photoshop/paintshop pro/microsoft paint type software and remove the reg numbers that way .... or stick some A4 paper over the plates before taking the picture  Quote
Another?Maybe! Posted January 5, 2007 Author Report Posted January 5, 2007 Here's some pics of our Galaxy replacement, so far so good we've just turned over 100 miles...and we like the extra dark privacy glass & my wife like the heated seat, cold b***er she is! Don't know how successful these attachments will be, not done any on this forum b4 although I send them via email all the time. And thanks Cepheus for the tips. Quote
