andyk Posted December 16, 2006 Report Posted December 16, 2006 My drivers side door lock has gone. The key no longer locks the doors from the drivers door (but central locking works ok with the other doors, so I can lock the Gal). I can pull the lock barrel out when the key is turned anticlockwise. My problem is I don't know how to get the door card off to get at the inside of the lock. I'm guessing that a circlip has come off the barrel.I know there's an exellent post for this in the faq, but that's for a mark2. Anyone know how to remove a mark1 please? Thanks Quote
morticiaskeeper Posted December 16, 2006 Report Posted December 16, 2006 There are a load of yellow plastic clips holding the door card on. I think it's 11 in total. A proper tool is wonderful for undoing the clips - Machine Mart Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted December 16, 2006 Report Posted December 16, 2006 mmmmmmmmmmm i think if you search the forum really hard, you might find some detailed instructions on removing it - i think  i will have a looksie in a min (whoopse, was that the mumof4 "looksie") MJR  Quote

Guest wolfie Posted December 16, 2006 Report Posted December 16, 2006 Mk1 door card removal from memorylower the window! under the door release lever/finger pull is a removable trim plate, carefully prise this out, under this is a large Phillips headed screw, remove it you can either pop the leccy window/mirror switches out now or leave them till later and unplug them when you have access to the rear of the panel? to remove them now you need to push the trim plate they are located in towards the front of the car and lift the rear of the plate out of the door, the switch plate is held in place by a couple of lugs, the front lugs are made so that the plate will slide forward allowing the rear lugs to disengage with the plate removed, unplug the loom and store the switches somewhere safe if you have door lights? remove these as well, stick a small flat bladed screw driver in to the slot at one end and apply pressure to undo the locking clip/latch unplug the loom and store next is the hard bit! unclipping the lower edges of the door card! 11 clips in total IIRC? use something thin and flat to prise the card away from the door! a putty knife etc apply GENTLE! pressure to the door pocket while you lever the card away from the door it helps! once you have unclipped/broke all the clips! the card is held in place by the trim alone the top edge of the door/glass wipe strip, with the card pulled out slightly at the bottom and lifting it up and out of the window/glass section of the door if it's come out then the only thing now holding it back is the LED wire! unplug this and it should lift away with no problems! next you have the moisture barrier a grey plastic moulded sheet DO NOT CUT IT! cut through the silicon sealant holding it in place! like your filleting a fish! run the blade flat with the door cutting through the sealant as you want to reuse the moisture barrier sheet!and only remove enough to allow you work so you don't have to reseal/replace as much have fun Quote

andyk Posted December 18, 2006 Author Report Posted December 18, 2006 Thanks all, especially Wolfie. I'll be able to tackle it now, but it'll probably have to wait till after Christmas. Cheers! Quote
greg_68 Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 Depending on how much you need to take off, the actual door lock and handle comes out from the outer side anyway so you may not have to take the door card off if you are lucky. If the key is just turning round and round most likely common failure is the back end of the lock cylinder the tag on the casting has snapped off like mine did. If you are tight like me just swap the drivers and passenger handles over 30 minutes job done. I never used to unlock the car from passenger side anyway. Quote

To remove remove and swap the handles from the outside, do I undo the screws that are by the latch? Quote
NikpV Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 (edited) IIRC there is a screw accessed through a hole near the latch I think its 6 in this diagram Edited December 18, 2006 by NikpV Quote
