katman Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 OMG !!!!! What has the forum upgrade done to Matt's post  Originally it was a brilliant article with all the steps of the install listed along with a photo of each stage. just popped back to the first page to have another look and all the steps are listed without any photos and then at the end of the article there is a whole load of photos where you have to guess which photo goes with which step :) Or is this one of the new Games on the forum ??? Guest MATT jr Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 Or is this one of the new Games on the forum ??? :( :) ...the upgrade has messed up my thread - and i suspect it might have messed up others. i mentioned it in another thread (forum upgrade (IIRC)) but no answer. i guess i will have to go through it all and sort it out  MJR Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 ok...assignments out of the way (uni) iv been doing a little more tonight - ready to completely finish the project tomorrow. all thats left is the control panel. this is a small plastic box, that sits under the temperature controls, and houses 4 buttons (3 push to make LOCKING ones, and one non locking one) and one relay. 4 holes were drilled (VERY carefully - 16mm dia)and the switches fit perfectly. and the relay was glued in, and most of the wiring/soldering done... i then needed some more bits (15amp wire, and fuse & fuse holder) but halfords were shut by then, so early trip tomorrow me thinks! Guest MATT jr Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 forgot to mention (beginning to miss the edit button) 1 locking button = Sub woofer on/off (cos the bass does my head in sometimes lmao)1 locking button = power on/off for the relay - which in turn, turns on or off the power for the laptop/screen/disk drive1 locking button = FM sound modulator (on= computer sound, off = radio)1 non locking = computer on/off switch (hot wired from the laptop) MJR Quote

Guest MATT jr Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 teehe, thank you both :) just getting a brew down me, before i start - might have a mess with the headlamp if i get the PC done, as the leveling motor thingy-ma-bob doesn't work on the right one (although u can hear it) once complete, at a later time, im thinking of re-doing the screen, cos im not 100% happy with it atm (which reminds me, i need to finish the thread on that (need take yet more fotos)) another future "re-build" is the sub-woofer box - atm, its a shop standard one, when iv got time/money/ and feeling adventurous, i will make a "proper" box for that. then theres computer accessories to think about...cameras, hard drives (external), Internet connection. MJR :) Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 ok, so the project is now basically finished....still a few small bits here and there, and some bugs to iron out,,, but basically its finished. ...so finished wiring (soldering?) the control panel, notice the addition of the green 18amp wire. it was then a case of removing the radio (again!) and unclip some more plastic trim... and then making all the connections up - and soldering all joints - just to reduce the possibility of failure lol. theres also two fuses for this control panel - both have been put behind the radio...this means every circuit is fused. heres the monitor installed...im not 100% happy with this, and it will be changed at a later time. iv also added a socket and plug to the sub-woofers lead (enthusiasts may cringe at this, but it needs to be practical! - ie, easily removable) MJR :( Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 some more pictures of the system in action... (photos taken on camera phone) ...more to follow once i can get a decent camera :( MJR Quote

Guest MATT jr Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 thank you both lol... lmao Paul...i don't want do another one of these for a while!!!!! - when you say it quick - sounds easy - but when you actually do it, the problems and problems that keep rolling in...and its still got problems even tho its "finished" 2 major problems...software problem on the GPS antenna - hopefully fix that todayand the audio is picking up interference - again,, fixable, just more time and effort. then theres the worry if the antenna will get a signal through the metal roof! although this is the first time iv ever done this...so next time i do it, i know more what im doing ;) i will post some "summary" pictures later, if i can use my mums camera. MJR :) Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 well...had a go at fixing the software problem...installed the GPS antenna driver - but still wouldn't work...so thought - bet its COM ports...went into them, and installed the driver on COM port 4..and hey presto - the two items are now communicating...but, it aint getting a signal thro the roof. so will have to re-position the antenna. the audio problem - not tackled it yet - although have been shopping round for a shielded super cool dude interconnect - to replace the correct audio cable with. will mess with it again this weekend.
