AVSDOYLE Posted December 10, 2006 Report Posted December 10, 2006 Hi, I had my cambelt changed in Dec-03 on my 1999 Galaxy 1.9Tdi. This was just before reaching the 40k mileage. Since then the car has done very low mileage. I am now approching 58k. Does the cambelt need changed every three years or can I wait until I am approaching 80k mileage in 2010! I have read the various threads about the 40k/60k intervals but I am happy to err on the side of caution on this. The Galaxy has served me very well and I can afford to return the service with a little love and care (cambelt and rollers) to ensure it continues for the next 3-4 years. TIA - Seamus Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted December 10, 2006 Report Posted December 10, 2006 the book says 60k or 5 years but as you know it was change to 40k so i would of thought the years side has come down alsos to around 3years someone might know for defo :) Quote
AVSDOYLE Posted December 10, 2006 Author Report Posted December 10, 2006 Thanks for the reply and well done against Chelski :) Quote
NikpV Posted December 10, 2006 Report Posted December 10, 2006 the book says 60k or 5 years someone might know for defo  Our book says every 40k IIRC the inteval was reduced for late mk1 and early mk2 but it was extended again for later mk2's - something about better parts being used - new part numbers- apparently if you have the newer specced part fitted you can extend to 60k again. In your case I would treat it if you can afford it - but I wouldn't lose any sleep about it for another year :) Quote
Guest steve_lj Posted December 10, 2006 Report Posted December 10, 2006 Hiya - when you say the interval was extended for later mk 2 models - what would be classed as a "later"model ?? Any idea of the year ?? I have a 53 plate tdi would this be a 40k change or a 60k change.?? cheers Quote

Triple Trouble Posted December 11, 2006 Report Posted December 11, 2006 according to autodata it is 60k/5yrs for the tdi and 40k/5yrs for the tdi pd Hi, as far as i can recall, for TDI's produced after May/June 2003 (best to check earlier thread on here) the interval is 60,000 or 5 years. Quote
wood73 Posted December 11, 2006 Report Posted December 11, 2006 i would err the side of caution on this one, a new cambelt kit is a lot cheaper than a new engine! Quote

raymac Posted December 11, 2006 Report Posted December 11, 2006 Well with that mileage you are well in the time permitted and i would be inclined to change it within the time period rather than mileage done :D how do you keep the mileage so low drive it up and down the drive :D :D Quote
AVSDOYLE Posted December 12, 2006 Author Report Posted December 12, 2006 Hi Raymac The Gal is a second car. We only use it when all the kids (3 of them) travel with parents and we need luggage space or 'demilatised zones' between the kids :) Quote
