NikpV Posted December 9, 2006 Report Posted December 9, 2006 the filename appears to be missing off the end of the error message (if there is a floopy drive and cd drive take te disks out before trying to boot it up) Quote
Guest neil_wiles Posted December 9, 2006 Report Posted December 9, 2006 M Have you got any System cds if you put them in the drive then start the laptop then it should read from the CD drive, a windows setup CD will enable you to repair the system. Any make of system cd will enable that part to be repaired it dosesnt have to be an acer Quote

mumof4 Posted December 9, 2006 Author Report Posted December 9, 2006 i have no start button....i tried last known good configuration..that didnt work Directory services restore mode? didnt work..still same error...it did summit then stopped at config\system.alt Quote
Guest neil_wiles Posted December 9, 2006 Report Posted December 9, 2006 To use the directory services restore mode you need a degree in comuter science the best way would be to borrow a system cd from anyone and do a repair the directory services is a nightmare to use. and it will probably request the cd when the changes are made anyway. Does it have a disc drive as well as a cd rom ? We could make yuou a start up disc to be able to repair the system files. Quote
mumof4 Posted December 9, 2006 Author Report Posted December 9, 2006 directory services didnt work.....no idea what it has..it has a tray in the side you put a disk in..... Quote
Guest neil_wiles Posted December 9, 2006 Report Posted December 9, 2006 You need to get a system cd to repair the system, it will boot from it in the cd drive surely someone near you can give you one for an hour ? Quote
mumof4 Posted December 9, 2006 Author Report Posted December 9, 2006 No one i know has the acer lap top from tesco.. :( Quote
NikpV Posted December 9, 2006 Report Posted December 9, 2006 have you got an xp home/pro setup cd - if so put it in the drive and try a repair installation Quote
Guest wolfie Posted December 9, 2006 Report Posted December 9, 2006 My lap top recently did the same thing! turned out the HD was eating it's self! thats why the file went missing! before it could destroy it's self totally I removed and replaced the HD, the only headache since after reloading the OS (I kept the disc) was removing and saving as much info off the dieing drive as I could before it was too late! good luck in trying to fix it! as nik suggests do you have a copy of XP that came with your desktop pc? if so try reloading/repairing XP from that and then bluffing the help desk about how many times that copy has been registered! play the dizzy female that you seem to do so well :( also remember that if you re-install XP you will most likely lose anything already on the HD! pictures, files etc! mumof4 Posted December 9, 2006 Author Report Posted December 9, 2006 i dont..i got no disks with mine as everything is already loaded on it.. Quote
gregers Posted December 9, 2006 Report Posted December 9, 2006 you might be able to make a start up disk off of your own computer, then put it into the laptop and see what happens.orif you have time (i do believe you have a cd copyer now)make a complete copy of your machine and then reload onto the laptop.but make sure in future you have at least a copy so if this happens again you can get yourself out of the mess shes put you in(and keep it in a safe place). Guest wolfie Posted December 9, 2006 Report Posted December 9, 2006 explore your HD, you may have a pre installed copy floating around? if so copy it to a cd and load it into the lap top, but as I said earlier you may have issues when you try and register it! Quote
NikpV Posted December 9, 2006 Report Posted December 9, 2006 you can make a boot floppy from a tab in control panel which you can use to boot up the lappy Quote
