Guest dannyboy Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 hello everyone, the OH bought herself an R reg galaxy at the weekend as our previous car, a renault scenic, was only a 5 seater and she wanted to take more friends on nights out. got stuck between choosing the alhambra or sharan but finally settled on the ford after finding a very good example. now the problem we have is that the cd drawer(?) wont stay in the changer, it seems to me as though the catch must be faulty and it brings up the "no cds" fault on the headunit which is a 2007r rds. is this a familiar problem? i understand i can replace it with a sony cdx-t69 for Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 hi there there was a galaxy changer on ebay a few days back have a search  Quote
Guest dannyboy Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 thanks gooner, i tried searching for anything on the forum but i cant see anyone else having that exact problem. Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 faulty CD changers are rare,, have you tried holding the disk magazine in the changer, and see if it will work? if it does, might be worth opening the unit up, to see if you can fix the latch. new sony cd changer??? weve got a sony one, and we had to buy a converter ( Quote
big_kev Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 Can you describe this fault in more detail. It sounds from your description as if the cassette unit is not engaging properly and popping back up.If this was the case then you would not expect the headunit to bring up anything other than an error as obviously there is no way the cds are going to move across into the player itself. Therefore your statement about no cds showing would not at all unexpected and it is unlikely you would even bother looking at the head unit. Do you mean than you place cd's in the cassette unit, place it into the player, close the lid and everything looks mechanically ok.Then when you try to play them it comes up with the no cds fault on the head unit ? delboyt Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 goto halfordsthe head unit & changer for Quote
Guest dannyboy Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 cheers guys, not quite sure how to explain properly but if i fit the cds into the cassette then put the cassette into the changer it wont "engage" if you know what i mean, it just pops back out again, the only way to hold them in is to close the shutter thing. sorry i'm not very technical with this,  i'll try holding it in as you say matt, dunno if it'll work with the thing open but i'll have a look. maybe blu tac will work...................................................................just kidding. Quote
Andrew T Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 What message appers on the head unit when this happens? It sounds like there is no power at the remote changer as mine will load and eject the CD cassette even with the keys out of the ignition. Not sure where it's fused though. Quote

My changer (on an rds5000) had the opposite problem. You could load it and put it in but it would not come out again. The head unit reported error 5. Having had a load of cd's nicked from a previous car, I decided it was better to dump the head unit for a 50 quid panasonic mp3 job. That way, I can burn 7 or 8 cds to an mp3 disk and leave them in the car with no fear of them getting nicked. Also get all the track info on the display too. John Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 It sounds like there is no power at the remote changer as mine will load and eject the CD cassette our Cd changer holds the cassette in it even if the power is lost - although power loss would bring up disk/cd error of some kind. sounds the unit is mechanically broken. Guest dannyboy Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 thats my way of thinking too, seems like the catch is gone that keeps the cassette in the changer. hmmm, might be a job for the screwdriver this weekend, we've got a flashy sony mp3 headunit i bought her for her last b'day i can fit if it comes to it, probably will eventually anyway. it just saves constantly swapping cds on the run down to dorset, devon and cornwall for our camping holidays each year. Quote

Happened to mine twice now!!Its pretty easy to fix, and most likely the bit of plastic thats broken will still be inside the unit. Remove the unit and give it a shake, you should hear a timy bit rattling round inside. Its a little L piece with a screw in one end. The screw end will still be attached to the player so its straightforward to see where it needs to go. I use epoxy to glue it back in place and it seems to last about two years (then it breaks again!!!) I could have taken photos as I just fixed it again this Monday... Quote
Guest dannyboy Posted December 10, 2006 Report Posted December 10, 2006 it's most definitley that, i took it out and shook it but i was so cold i couldn't be bothered to try getting anything fixed, lol. i'll have a better try this week. thanks for the help everyone. Quote
