I know this has been covered many times before..... buuut, has anyone fitted a flip down to a gal without a sunroof? What did you attach it to as I was thinking about the cross members?? will I have to take down the headlining and how easy or hard would this be?

Any help would be very much appreciated, pic's would be great as well.

isnt the roof lining strong enough?

what if you fit some sort of metal strip in the roof lining, and bolt the monitor to that - through the roof lining.

would this distribute the weight enough to be ok?

Hi all, and a happy new year !!

I put my 10'' screen and dvd on the roof a few weeks ago. I chose to do it the more difficult , but more "secure " way.

The roof lining cannot support this kind of weight, at least not more than a month or so. The proper way of mounting the screen is to the roof itself. Problem is that there is not a "handy" cross member where you want it. (or at least where I wanted it). I have aligned the screen with the front seat headrests, so I put my own custom made cross member.

First I removed the roof lining (really easy job to do, just takes time. Make sure you wash your hands before touching the lining, and the kids are not there!!) Then I bought an aluminum T shaped bar (really cheap), cut the correct length and bent it slightly to match the curve of the roof. Secured it to the sides of the roof with two small metal screws and applied a thick layer of silicone (before puting it into place )

to the upper side, where it contacts the roof, to prevent noice or vibration after time.

The original thought was to screw the monitor's base plate after I had reinstalled the roof lining. But then it came easier to mount the metal plate of the monitor under the lining , put the lining back in place and press it upwards so the four long studs of the mounting plate make their way through !!

I 'm happy so far with the result and confident that the screen will endure the childrens abuse..

Too bad ,I did not think of taking any pictures while doing the job, I will post a foto of the monitor in place soon...

[Hi There,i have fitted a few of these flip down screens, I have found that you can mount a 7" one using part of the crossbar just in front of the rear interior light. It is very secure but if you like to go for a 10" i would advise dropping the roof cloth and fitting it further forward ie between the drivers front seat.I fitted one in my last Galaxy and used mdf as a support and fixed it to the roof using grip fill.I strong job,it has never moved in 3 years and i guess it wont now at this stage. It also helped to sell the car for me. Bought a new 130 Alhambra so iam going to install one in it also. Regards connectms, hope this was a little helpful

I also fitted a 10" screen with an integral DVD.

I used a similar method to connectms, I cut out a piece of 1/2" plywood about 7" square then put five 1" square feet on it, I screwed and glued the feet on. I then cut out a section of the headling to alow the ply to be pushed up to the metal roof. Then I used araldite to fix the five feet to the roof. I used a slow cure araldite and wedged the ply firmly against the roof for 24 hours and did not use the galaxy during this time. I then screwed the metal mounting plate to the ply and the 10" DVD player to the metal plate. For power I soldered a cable to the front light console and ran it through the gap between the headling and the roof, I wouldn't recomend this as it may overload the wiring but it has worked okay for three months now. This method means you don't have to drop the roof lining.
