Parking Sensors Under Water....

I have a 2001/02 6 seater (all Leather) Ford Galaxy 2.8 V6 Ghia (might be a Ghia x but who knows!!).

I had the rear washer dump the entire contents of the washer bottle into the passenger footwell (I'm glad I read the site, as thats the only reason I knew what was going on!!)

Ive dried out the carpets and fixed the pipe, but what next....the parking sensors dont work, the button glowed earily for a day or so then nothing....but the good news is apart from the parking sensors everything else still works!!

Does it mean

(1) I still have a swimming pool of water in the tray under the passenger seat, that needs to be drained?

(2) Do I have to remove the passenger seat to get at it?

(3) That even if the car is dried out that the electrics are shot?

(4) Does anyone know what I might need to replace and roughly how much?

The design seems woeful, as there was me thinking buy a Ford, they're simple and have lots of cheap parts, but having had to replace my ignition coils recently at a cost of

If you slide the passenger seat forward you should be able to get your hand in and feel to see if its still wet, the unit for the parking sensors is under there - even if its now dry there the unit itself is probably wet - take it out and let it dry out - don't know if you can take it apart to help it though :ninja:

Hi C, Welcome to the forum!

AFAIK there was no Ghia X on the mk2 Gal. Ghia trim (as well as other trim levels) had four option packs: technology pack, which adds traction control; the power pack adds front and rear electric windows (where not standard equipment), heated front seats; multimedia pack adds a DVD player while the journey pack adds a DVD player and navigation system. These were in adition to the single options including 17-inch alloy wheels, leather trim, towbar, pearlescent or metallic paint, multi-function steering wheel, dual air conditioning and satellite navigation system.

I've fortunately not had the leaking rear washer hose problem, so can't advise on that part sorry :(

Hi Chauncey,

Mine has also just suffered the rear washer pipe leak/flood situation, but I appear to have been lucky in catching it before the water got into the underseat area. (Thanks SA Intruder for the FAQ tips) What a sod to dry out! Talking to a neighbour who is the service manager for the local Audi dealer, this crap VW engineering is not exclusive to the Galaxy/Sharan etc, but can similarly flood Audi A3/4/6 and 8's, and in his time at a VW dealer, Golfs and Passats suffered too. He also mentioned that there is a service fix available, and is going to find out the details for me - typically there is nothing on eTIS about this concern.

To all out there who haven't checked theirs is OK, Fix it NOW before the icy weather really sets in - its really no hassle to do when the car is already dry. (the noise insulation foam is 1 piece for passenger and drivers footwell, and you have to remove the centre console too. I didn't want to leave it in place to dry - would take far too long.)

I will post anything I find about the service fix as soon as I have it.

George.

I presume that you have the car either in reverse or 1st gear when testing them? Best to cover the basics

Yes - checked them in both reverse and in 1st gear and they are as silent as the grave !!

Any update on this please? Are they working yet?

I had a multi function steering wheel on my last Gal, was told It's very complicated and expensive to transfer it due to differing air bag, ignition switch electrics and other wiring looms

Apparantly thats why it was a factory fit option at time of order rather than dealer fit.
