davewill Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 The heater in my Gal has a mind of its own. When i drive and have the heater (AC) on, i usually have the direction of air flow to the windscreen or on my feet, and the heat control somewhere in the middle. If i stop the car, and then return to it shortly after, and start up, the airflow immediately starts coming out of the dashboard vents, and the air it blows out is hot - why? ;) To stop this i have to turn the temp control to hot, turn the air flow direction to the vents, and put the fan speed to max. I then get very hot air blowing in my face for 10 seconds or so, but after this short time i can turn the temp control back down to medium, and the direction back to my feet or the winscreen, and everything is then fine Has anyone else had or is having a similar experience, and if so whats causing it ;) ps Gal 1.9tdi Zetec Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 do you have climate control or not ;) Quote
JohnR Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 do you have climate control or not ;) I have similar quirky control from mine (with CC). It works but seems to have a mind of its own. It changes the fan speed too! Still haven't figured out its logic! Quote

I assume they use vacuum to operate the flaps etc. Quote
Jimbo73 Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 I dont know why it does it, but in my VW Passat it does this for a reason and tells you in the manual. I cant find the manual to tell you why it does, but when turned on it always blows air away from the windscreen, and it blasts automatically and should be left for a few seconds till it has done what its done.. This is usually a funtion of vehicles with CC and as far as I am aware not standard AC. It is so that the warm moist air is not directed onto the windscreen when the car is first started which would cause the windscreen to mist up. VW have a sensor fitted somewhere close to the windscreen vents for this reason. However, to answer the original question in the post, yes is the answer. This is yet one more thing that irritates me about the car that the dealer has no clue how to resolve and from the work carried out so far by the dealer it is a problem that I would not want them to investigate. The dashboard rattles enough already!!! Quote
