johnb80 Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Just had 2 weeks with a new Gal, some features I liked BUT on balance it was a thumbs down. My dealer who I've spent over Quote
mumof4 Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 why the thumbs down hun?i know i dont like it but am interested as to know why you dont... Quote
El Dingo Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 Yeah, c'mon John... what were your likes and dislikes? Quote
Guest Cepheus Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 How come you decided upon the Disco? Quote
johnb80 Posted December 4, 2006 Author Report Posted December 4, 2006 The seats in the Gal where more akin to a fold up picnic chair, I don't think they will stand the test of time. The engine was quieter than my 53 plate but it seemed less torquey, wind noise was much bettert. My one pet hate with a car is when you look from the side it looks like it's going downhill eg Focus Saloon, the new Gal also has a slight bit of this look about it. Rear access, no spare kinda pushed me over the edge and the 'brillant' part ex allowance sealed it. Why Disco? absolutely incredible engine, I had to lift the bonnet to see that it was a diesel, it certainly doesn't sound like one. Nicely appointed inside (white leather), SatNav built in, fridge in the armrest and it goes down the road in a very meancing manner. Air suspension keeps the body low when the speed is high and keeps it level when cornering hard. The gearbox is silky smooth (my Range Rover from years ago was too) probably down to the body weight. In my view, the new Gal will not be a good seller, Ford have got it wron compared to the last of the old model, it's too expensive and too plasticky and as for no spare........ say no more. They've cut corners on this car and it shows. Regards - J Quote
Dave-G Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 That sounds solid reasoning John, thanks for the honesty. I sometimes wonder how main dealers can justify the mediocre trade in price against the new car that is priced like it's really wonderfull - till you want to trade that in... All the best with the Disco mate Quote
Guest Cepheus Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 I was torn between a Disco and the Gal when I bought her, but was put off by the side facing boot seats. Have you gone for the 7 seat option on the new Disco? Aren't they forward facing now? If I had 33k to spend on a new car (would never buy a new car though!) there'd be quite a list to choose from .... Volvo XC90Audi A6 QuatroBMW 540 MSportLexus RX400Merc R-ClassDiscoPorsche CayenneAudi Q7 Well that's my xmas list sorted ..... :( Quote

I could have been tempted by the Audi Q7 or the Merc R Class, the rest are just tarts cars (no offence to tarts). The new Disco just looks so menacing when it's just rolling along :( Should have it by Friday. Regards - J Quote

Regards - J Hi Guys & Gals,Just dropped by to wish you all a Merry Chrimbo, the Disco is running well, not as good as the Gal on MPG's but a lot quicker and much, much quieter. Have a good one and may your MAF's be trouble free in 2007. Regards - J Quote
NikNak Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 I'm stuck on the second sentence too........ 250K in 3 years......!! :D Quote
Guest wolfie Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 I'm stuck on the second sentence too........ 250K in 3 years......!! :D Jb80 runs a couple of companies IIRC, so apart from his Galaxy he runs a small fleet of transits and their smaller counterparts? so if you include the purchase price and servicing bills then it's an understandable figure :D Quote
big_kev Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 A company Director........I was correct Quote
johnb80 Posted January 12, 2007 Author Report Posted January 12, 2007 Hi,Yes I own a couple of companies and have under my direct control 6 Transits and about 5 or 6 cars including my own. My statement about the menacing looks, it really would be suited for gangsters, have a look at one when it's rolling in traffic when the suspension is low ! Happy New Year to you all. Regards - JohnP.S. Ford have just lost the next batch of vans to Mercedes, not having a good time are they...... Quote
