Guest cash_point_cyril Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 hi all, got a bit of a dilemma. my vauxhall corsa, which i use to teach people drive in, has developed a "humming" noise when driving above 35 - 40 mph (most noticeable at 48mph - above 50 and it fades away). i tried to book it in at a vauxhall garage, but they cant look at it till next week. the humming seems speed related, and not engine/rev related. we did a bit of free-wheeling at 50mph, and the sound remained - does this mean its not the gear box/transmission? matt thinks the front wheel bearings might be at fault, but were not sure. so, do i cancel all my work until next week, or is it ok to drive? im gonna take it to an independent garage tomorrow, any ideas? btw - my vauxhall forum is down for the next few days, hence im asking here. bigdaddy Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 Yes sounds like the bearings are humming,,,,,,,,,,,,,you should be able to hear what side its coming from,,,,,,,,,I am sure the indy garage will sort it for you Quote
Guest cash_point_cyril Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 Spot on! The rear left wheel had a damaged bearing, and the drum break was cracked. All fixed for Quote
Guest Cepheus Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 I'll never drive another Corsa .... Sturdy little cars though!! Quote
Guest cash_point_cyril Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 You were lucky to escape that with little injury. I have always had diesel corsa's for teaching learners drive.not only do they stand up to the punishment, but your guaranteed to get 60MPG My last one did 160,000 miles before i sold it, no engine or clutch problems, just millions of new hubcaps as learners hit the kerb almost everyday :) Great little car CPC Quote
