funbus Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 My sis runs a 99 tdi ghiax. She broke down today, just cut out and ground to a halt. The RAC man tells her bubbles in the fuel line, prob need a new fuel pump. Anyone replaced a fuel pump, if yes how much please? Perhaps also the fuel filter needes replacing, is it part of the same component or totally separate? Cheers for any help, I don't want my sister to get ripped off by some dodgy garage dude! edit - is this the relay 30/27 type of problem??? Quote

I cannot comment on the fuel pump needing replacement as advised by RAC. I had a diesel passatbefore my alhambra. I had air bubbles in the clear supply line to fuel pump my problem was a faulty non return valve on the fuel filter. Either the return valve was leaking or the rubber o/ring seal ineffective letting air into the fuel line causing fuel starvation/staring problems. Quote
funbus Posted November 29, 2006 Author Report Posted November 29, 2006 Nice one thanks for your help, that's certainly an avenue to explore. A lot cheaper than a pump I expect. Cheers. Quote
marinabrid Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 had similar a while ago, coated the fuel filter in/out joints and unions up to the pump with a grease, they are prone to this seemed to cure problem, still see a few bubbles but so do a lot of people i think Quote
Brookydave Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 Make sure the plastic drain tap on the fuel filter has not cracked. Unscrew completely and inspect. Common VAG fault. Quote
