El Dingo Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 We had a VIOLENT thunder storm at about 11:30 this morning. Forked lightening, sky almost black. Scared the willies out of the cat. No snow here. :D Quote
jkspoff Posted November 26, 2006 Author Report Posted November 26, 2006 This is what the weathers like up here at moment, taken yesterday with my camera phone, can't believe the quality of the image, Nokia N73. Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 ...weather was alright here. not wet, not freezing but not sunbathing weather. MJR Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 Torrential rain, thunder/lightning and hail here. No chance of washing the car - many roads semi-flooded with huge puddles because the drains are blocked by falling leaves and the local council haven't been round sweeping the leaves up this autumn yet.... jkspoff Posted November 26, 2006 Author Report Posted November 26, 2006 Yep, 3.2 mega pixel, auto focus etc, seems more like a camera with a phone as extra ! Not so good in dark conditions, but during the daytime it takes photos that would put my professional Nikon D2Hs to shame sometimes. Highly recommended phone: http://www.nokia.com/nseries/index.html?lo...&country=GB Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 love the pics very nicecant belive they was took from a camera phone  Quote
NikpV Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 Nikon D2Hs oooooh    glass can't compete though  Quote
jkspoff Posted November 27, 2006 Author Report Posted November 27, 2006 Not sure what you mean ??? Quote
NikpV Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 Not sure what you mean ??? for distortion free light gathering ability the glass/lens used in phone camera cannot compete with most normal nikon lenses - and while we are at it the size of the sensor in the phone camera will make it much 'noisey' in low light situations - without even considering the merits of the autofocus. - if indeed the phone is actually autofocus and not just a fixed focus small aperture (giving huge dof) Quote

Yes the Nikon does have its benefits ! It wasn't really a direct comparison, just the snap shot ability, that has improved dramatically in the past year with camera phones. Who knows, maybe one day it will be an all in one device capable of Nikon SLR type quality, with CCD chip design getting more advanced by the day. Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 i think camera phones will get good enough for the average user, but will never out do a proper camera. MJR Quote

MJR yes they are fine for situations where you need a snapshot - for the record - but in portrait work the ability to use a small depth of field to isolate the features and leave the background with a pleasant blur (bokeh) or in macro - 1 to 1 repoduction + more dedicated equipment is needed (the list of special circumstances is endless) Quote
