Hi folks. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed increased reception noise when tuned into Radio 1 lately?

Is there any truth in what I have heard, that the BBC are reducing FM transmitter power in the hope we will all buy DAB stereos?

I listen to R1 when driving to/from work, and R2 etc at the weekends. No probs with R2, R3 or local stuff, just R1.

Thanks.

Never listen to the radio to know!

Stopped listening when I realised that all the news reports at school run time were filled with detailed reports of murder, rape, war, drugs and paedophiles. Hmmm I see a debate/rant thread coming on here ....

...well, the quality was fine,,, but i did have to turn up the volume a few notches to make it the same level as other stations.

Reception of Radio 1 was fine last time I listened to it... but that was about 1991

Where about in the country are you. It could be that engineering work is taking place in your area

Okehampton in Devon died this afternoon so if you are in that area maybe it was ropey prior to death !!!

I think there was a major power cut in London on Friday - Radio 1 lost their Maida Vale studio, and had to move their live guest in a taxi. It (somehow) affected local BBC stations as far away as Radio Cumbria.

Anyway, I find Radio 4 is always too quiet. Switching between R4 and R1/commercial stations (as I regularly do) requires constant fiddling with the volume control. Don't have a problem with R1 though.

iv got 5 presets.

signal 1

radio 1

BBC stoke

XRhythms (or summat)

beacon.

the 6th preset is set to FM 90.0hz - and i use the tuning button and work upwards. as i drive around you can flick between all the available stations, and listen to the different arrays of crap on them.

Ive got 6 presets

Radio 1 - never used

Radio 2 - always used

Broadland 102.4 - seldom used

The Beach 103.4 - seldom used

Radio Norwich 99.9 - seldom used

Kiss FM 106.4 - seems to self select *

* There seems to be some strange electrical problem on my Galaxy.

If I leave the radio on Radio 2 whilst filling up with petrol, when I get back to the car the radio has mystically changed to preset 6 Kiss FM. It must be when I open the door I think.

Strangely it only happens if the other half is in the car!!!

you can have up to 12 set stations, 6 on FM1 and 6 on FM2 --- theres also AMS (IIRC) where u can store a further 6 stations, then AM.

(thats on our 4050)

Mine actually has 3 set of 6 FM plus 6 AM but here on the East Coast there arent that many radio station to listen too. I tend to keep so other stations like Galaxy and SmoothFM on the FM2 set for when we travel up to Lancashire/Yorkshire so that we dont have to keep changing the settings.

Not interested in DAB yet as all that is on offer in our area is Stations that I can already get but dont listen to, or stations that I have no interest in whatsoever. If they ever put Smooth FM on DAB in East Anglia then I will get a DAB tuner straight away. Tend to listen to that at home off Freeview or Satellite. Quite handy because Freeview carries the London service and SKY carries the Manchester one

The last time I listened to AM radio for any length of time was for stations like Caroline, Laser 558 and Atlantic 252. Very occasionally I tune in to 675 Radio Tien Gold from Holland but it has to be a good tune to put up with the awful quality of AM. Tend to use the iPod quite a bit now as well.

Thanks for the replies. I live Berkshire/Hampshire border area. I checked the transmitter engineering work but couldn't see anything obvious. It's been bad here for a couple of months. I might have to get a new Dab radio for christmas!

Bring back Richard Allinson that's all I can say. I am listening to 210 FM  ;) in the car Mon to Fri.

Well, when I say listening, I'm not really hearing, keep pushing the CD button for something different.

Sleigh bells anyone???
