Hello,

I wonder if anyone can give a little advice, please.

The rear wiper on my 2002 Galaxy does not wipe the whole arc of the blade. I have replaced the wiper blade, to no avail.

Could it be the spring on the wiper arm that has lost is tension. Can you replace the spring alone, or is it a case of replacing the whole arm?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Paul

Yes you can replace the spring..but i tell you now..its a s**t of a job!!....the tension in it is phenomanal..I had to put the spring back on the arm when it pinged off...if you do replace it..watch your face if you try to put it on your self!

As far as i know..the spring is there to keep the arm against the window..without it the arm is useless....i would look to the motor..etc...Mine stops and starts so have to sort mine out..

Not half..next time i'll just get the whole new arm!!....mind..where would be the fun in that..no spring pinging of and whacking me in the face just when id thought id got it on! :) :D

Hello,

Thanks for your prompt replies.

It is the top part of the wiper that seems to miss the screen. The motor seems fine as the wiper moves back and forth as it should.

The local dealer has stated that the spring is not available on its own. Is this a Ford part, or can I purchase it elsewhere?

I am up to the challenge of fitting it!

Cheers,

Paul

Hi paul and welcome to the madhouse ;) before you try anything else or buy anything else have a look at putting some oil/wd40 on the pivot part of the arm, i had a audi80 and i changed the wiper and it wouldn't hit the top of the screen oiled the pivot part and all was well :D

Ok..i found when refitting the spring..that the arm does bend :D ..try bending it to touch the screen...had to bend mine back into shape after the spring incident.. ;)

I had this problem. I bought a new arm but no difference. It turned out to be the wiper blade itself. Buy a blade from your Ford dealer, it will work.
