Another?Maybe! Posted November 21, 2006 Report Posted November 21, 2006 My Gal is nearing the end of the manufacturer's warranty & I am toying with the idea of buying an independent warranty to cover any repair bills which might occur. I have just received a quote of Quote
big_kev Posted November 21, 2006 Report Posted November 21, 2006 I would be very wary of these warranties as they tend to not cover items classed as being due to wear and tear. Your vehicle is out of warranty therefore all the items on it are old and could be classed as at the end of their expected lifetime. eg the expected lifetime of the gas in your aircon is 3 years therefore any aircon faults could be down toi this and classed as fair wear and tear. ditto for the rest of the vehicle really. Dave-G Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 The first 90 days of a warranty direct policy do not cover wear and tear - thereafterwards they are covered up to the max mileage allowed. After 60K you start paying some of the repair. They Don't like electrical component failure like ignition switches but to date on my 59K mileage import - so no third year ford wty, I have had replaced: air con compressor, starter motor ( Quote
NikpV Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 hollowpoint supersonic on myself later today on the engineer first   Quote
Another?Maybe! Posted November 23, 2006 Author Report Posted November 23, 2006 Thanks for replies so far. Dave-G...they say the 90 day wait will be waved as I still have the remains of Fords 3 year warranty until middle of December. Wear & tear on consumable items, like tyres, brake pads is not covered but on unexpected events it is. Coincidentally, the 'Daily Mail' is advertising for W Direct today. I put in my details for an on-line quote & it was Quote
chesh100 Posted November 23, 2006 Report Posted November 23, 2006 Do check on what they cover on the electrical side of things. Do they just cover the engine managment ecu or also include other ecu's that control the other electrical items? Just had one replaced on a Renault and it's not covered by the warrenty   .Having to claim the cost back from the car sales dealer under the "Sale of Goods Act". :( Not what I need just before Xmas!!! Dave-G Posted November 23, 2006 Report Posted November 23, 2006 Yep - it's not one of their dealer garages so I have to pay then reclaim but a result nontheless. I have also asked them to do a 60k service for me :) This is the second term of the warranty - and each term has paid out more than my premium. Which makes a change because prior to this every warranty I took out was never drawn on :) Quote

Another?Maybe! Posted November 24, 2006 Author Report Posted November 24, 2006 dave-g...that sounds like a good result (and a recommendation). When I went on line I used a ficticious name, etc! as I didn't want them to contact me. They are still phoning me regularly from my original quote which went down to Quote
jkspoff Posted November 24, 2006 Report Posted November 24, 2006 I have had Warranty Direct now for 2 years, many claims have gone through with them, no problems at all in any of the claims, just make sure you keep your service history invoices etc. Keep hanging on a while and they will eventually get the price down to what I pay, Quote
