Ok....thanks to remote assistance i found out last night why it wasnt working...the thin long white cable is the problem that went into the back of it...now i know it was in properly as i did check all cables before it learnt to fly..so if the cable is the problem and it comes from the dvd rom to plug into the the cd writer..what do i do now?

The dvdrom drive works ok..i think..mind..didnt test that...hmmmm......will test that this morning.

Maz ...you might like to look at this

http://www.helpwithpcs.com/upgrading/insta...cd_recorder.htm

This will be the same for a DVD writer.

From your PM, the CD Errors shown in Event Viewer either indicated an Input/Output Controller or cable problem. You need to try connecting the DVD drive already connected to the ribbon cable to the other plug that your CD writer was connected to. This will confirm that the plug is OK. If it works, then the CD writer drive is U/S. Gooner has offered a CDRW (what a nice chap) which will be fine to burn music onto CD.

Hope this helps

the dvd rom drive was connected to the cd wroter drive which is connected to the side of the tower on a green board thingy and also connected to the floppy..all on one ribbon.......from what i could see..i cant see where else to plug the dvdrom drive in to where the blue bit is plugged in where the ribbon comes out of the cd writer drive to the side of the tower...there is no where else to plug the dvd rom drive in with the plug that went into the cd writer drive.....am i making sense? :)
