mumof4 Posted November 20, 2006 Author Report Posted November 20, 2006 it will???mine will you mean?..or one on the links you posted? Quote
NikpV Posted November 20, 2006 Report Posted November 20, 2006 Yes, the DVD-ROM drive will burn CD's. But like Nik says, you can do a lot more with a DVD writer. no a dvd-rom(read only memory) won't - it will play them - you need a writer to do that :P the second ebuyer link above looks fine - will do everything you want + back up your dvd movies (with some added software (pm me when needed) + back up your system onto a few disks (at the most) Quote
El Dingo Posted November 20, 2006 Report Posted November 20, 2006 it will???mine will you mean?..or one on the links you posted? Yours won't if it's 'Fooked'... Did you have two drives, and one is broken? (Either of those linked with write CD's. The Sony one will write DVD's as well.) Yes, the DVD-ROM drive will burn CD's. But like Nik says, you can do a lot more with a DVD writer. no a dvd-rom(read only memory) won't - it will play them - you need a writer to do that :P A DVD-ROM will write CD's if it's a Combi Drive, which most are these days. Which that one wasn't  Try this one...http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/115741/rb/23185658925 Quote

mumof4 Posted November 20, 2006 Author Report Posted November 20, 2006 ok..call me thick....but ....where computers are concerned im thick as mince...all i know is what i need..speed and all the other specifications mean nothing to me... :( ..from what i understand of what you are saying..you are saying that it is better to get a drive which plays dvds,,cds,,and writes/rewrites on both..is that right?..right..if i have that right.....would that not make the dvd rom drive i have already redundant? to back up my pc..do i need to do it to dvd discs or can i do it to cdrom discs?... ..i will take heed of your advice..once i can understand it! :( just direct me to one thing...that i can pay via paypal and ill be happy....i think.. :o I have been looking at ebay..but they just confuse me with all the different ones..speed etc....i aint got a clue what it all means.. NikpV Posted November 20, 2006 Report Posted November 20, 2006 your dvd-rom may become redundant but its likely that any new drive you get will be faster than an old dvd-rom drive, it may be useful if you want to do a direct copy from cd -~>cd or dvd->dvd. You could bacck up to cd but dvd hold much more data 4.7Gb upwards I'm sure someone will point you to an auction soon. Quote
