Wanted..cd Writer Rewriter Thingy.

Yes..am looking on ebay..but all the diff types and speeds and editions has me totally confused..

 

Just a bog standard one is what im after so i can burn my music.

They are both internal, so you'll have to undo the case, do some unscrewing, swap cables.

i have a dvd rom drive.....i know that doesnt write em..but all i want to do is burn music.....and id rather get a cd writer.....thanks for the info though..shall have a gander in sum shops in the morn if i have the time.

listen to him - dvd rewiter will do your cd's and you can burn dvd's - for backup, dvd films etc little extra cost :P

Yes, the DVD-ROM drive will burn CD's. But like Nik says, you can do a lot more with a DVD writer. :P

no a dvd-rom(read only memory) won't - it will play them - you need a writer to do that :P

 

the second ebuyer link above looks fine - will do everything you want + back up your dvd movies (with some added software (pm me when needed) + back up your system onto a few disks (at the most)

thats the one i need to replace...do i really need a dvd writer aswell though?

plain vanilla dvd-rom wont - any sort of combi rewriter will write cd's unless its f**ked - not bought any optical drives in thge last year but have 3 dvd-roms that just play all the others have writer in the name (3 more)

ok..call me thick....but ....where computers are concerned im thick as mince...all i know is what i need..speed and all the other specifications mean nothing to me... :( ..from what i understand of what you are saying..you are saying that it is better to get a drive which plays dvds,,cds,,and writes/rewrites on both..is that right?..right..if i have that right.....would that not make the dvd rom drive i have already redundant?

 

to back up my pc..do i need to do it to dvd discs or can i do it to cdrom discs?...

your dvd-rom may become redundant but its likely that any new drive you get will be faster than an old dvd-rom drive, it may be useful if you want to do a direct copy from cd -~>cd or dvd->dvd. You could bacck up to cd but dvd hold much more data 4.7Gb upwards I'm sure someone will point you to an auction soon.

very much limited to the speed of your usb (and that of the drive be careful - usb 1.1 -slow but there are two flavours of usb2 (normal 12 and hi-speed 480) I have an external sony but that is connected using firewire

its a ...asus cdrw internal drive.52x write speed..also take dual layer dvds 8.5gb loads of space here

if your gonna upgrade to a better drive

 

go for a nec/liteon/ etc

 

dual layer 16speed burning use the 4.7gb dvds but will burn in around 6mins max
