I'm sure it didn't do it until recently but I now notice a fair bit of smoke on cold startups and when accelerating hard even when the engine is warm.

It doesn't appear to be using any oil.

About 2 months ago it went in for a Fraud service and cambelt change. I don't recall the problem before that.

Any help please!!!

Runs smoothly (well as smooth as a diesel gets) and no problems starting.

Thanks

If this is white smoke you are talking about then it sounds like the aux heater starting up to give you enough engine temp to warm you and your passengers :)

No not white. Aux heater is fine. Its a cloud of greyish smoke coming from the exhaust when starting from cold and also accelerating when warm.

Incidentally it has done about 42000.

Not sure about the start up bit could be the cold weather, as for when accelerating hard i think you will find that most diesels give out a fair bit of the black stuff when floored :P

If the timing was 1 tooth out, the engine would run extremely badly. It is possible, however, that the timing has been alterred during the cambelt change - the camwheel is secured by three bolts in slots to allow for fine adjustment during the belt change. If done properly, it ensures that the engine timing is reset to precisely the factory settings.

The smoke may just be more noticeable due to the cold weather...

I stand corrected - I just remember that white/grey smoke can indicate timing slightly out - at least it did with my escort - endura engine ran ok one tooth out just smokey on startup (difficult) and under load - I didn't check this myself though :P

On the PD engines, the unit injectors are actuated by the camshaft, so if the timing was out by one tooth, this would affect the valve timing as well and the pump injector timing.

Hi all,

i also have the same problem on my 130ps 2004; this grey smoke smells like unburnt fuel

I've checked the timing, and it's ok

But i had a question about the glowplugs: is this normal that there is no power supply, unless it's freezing outside (that's what a mechanic told me when i was suggesting that there is no power to the glowplugs)

That guy was saying (after checking the faultcodes) that probably the variable vanes of the turbo stucked; i checked it, but the lever is moving nice en smoothly

So i'm still searching on this problem, if you find something please let us now!!
