Guest Robinski Posted November 14, 2003 Report Posted November 14, 2003  I have a 1996 2.0 LX and need to purchase new tyres. Size required = 195/65 R 15 T Kwik Fit had none in stock and stated that I needed reinforced 195/65s, not normal 195/65s. My manual says nothing about this. Can anyone verify Kwik Fit's claim and advise exactly what brands & models of tyre I should be looking for? Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted November 14, 2003 Report Posted November 14, 2003 Do a search on Tyres going back 180 days - masses of info And yes, they do need to be Reinforced. Quote
Guest Paul L Posted November 14, 2003 Report Posted November 14, 2003 Robinski, I've just replaced all four tyres on my Galaxy. Tyre choice is a personal thing but I've stuck with the Conti Contact CT22's I've fitted previously. Mid range tyre and I not had any problems. Firestone's are a slightly cheaper alternative. Tigger Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 I thought they had to be reinforced for insurance? Quote
johnb80 Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 I've had this discussion with my insurance company regarding my Cosworth Ultima. The tyres on that were rated at 165mph and carried the appropriate premium. I don't and never intend to drive at these speeds and therefore could not see the reason to pay out the not inconsiderable extra money on tyres of this standard. They told me categorically that my insurance would be null and void if I modified the vehicle in any way from the original manufacturers specification and tyres would come under this heading. If it says it in the book then you need to stick to that OR inform your insurance company. Regards - JB Quote
