littlenewt2067 Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 This is a great forum, but I have read through most threads over the past few months, and now expect my Galaxy to fail or breakdown and cost a fortune to fix!!! I posted the other day that other than servicing and tyres, I hadnt spent anything on it in 2 1/2 years... The following morning, it is telling me to check the brake pads!.....I have read so many horror stories, I am not enjoying the car! A couple of days ago, I took a company car to our garage and needed to leave it there. I got a lift back in a 2003, V6 109,000 mile Galaxy (it has had a hard life as a Police ARV) and it felt nothing like mine! I asked one of the mechanics what he thought of it and he said they spend more time in the workshop than on the street..he also made reference to the climate control and the gearbox....... I may just stick to reading the posts about ICE installs and modifications!!!! :) :) Quote
teresa Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 brake pads are easy enough to change and cheep enough especially if you do it yourself :) Quote
El Dingo Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 ...all you need is axle stands, jack, wheel brace, security wheel-nut adaptor, 13mm socket and arm, 10mm spanner, piece of pipe, can to collect fluid in, a fresh can of DOT4, caliper wind-back tool, new brake pads, new 'nylock' prepared caliper bolts, a small quantity of copper grease... as T says, it's not too hard a job. ... or you could stop reading and keep enjoying! :) Quote
mumof4 Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 The Gal is a brilliant work horse..when its working of course.....i love mine when it flies down the mway ...just keep everything crossed that all will be ok..if not..then we are here to help..well..maybe nay me as i know cock all but hey ho....i can try..anyway...enjoy your gal..she will work as hard as she can for you...and in return all she asks is that you feed and water her and mend her when she breaks which is no fault of her own..its the buggers that designed it. jwilliams Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 There are several sets of pads for the front of the Gal mine needed the expensive ones at Quote
jkspoff Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 Full set of 4 pads and 4 discs off ebay for fifty odd quid, fitted at my local garage for Quote
Grumpy Posted November 18, 2006 Report Posted November 18, 2006 I assume that you have checked that the pads actually do need changing. The "Check Pads" warning on my Galaxy required a new instrument panel to fix (brakes were fine!) Quote

Davetheref Posted November 20, 2006 Report Posted November 20, 2006 I had mine changed all round at a local tyre place for Quote
