Andrew T Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 seems to be a rash of these at the moment  But it seems to be restricted to Diesels, I believe the 2.0/2.3 has a different final drive assy? Quote

jkspoff Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 I got both drive shafts replaced at 57k just in warranty paid for in full by Ford, but it does seem like poor mechanical design for them to go so early. Apparently the replaced parts are of better quality after they were improved due to premature failure on many models, but only time will tell. Quote
Andrew T Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 Contrary to info recently posted on another thread, I have a June '95 article from 'Car' magazine on the launch of the Sharan/Galaxy stating that the Ford 2.0 (and later the 2.3) uses a (Mondeo) MTX transaxle, whereas the VW engined variants used a transaxle of Volkswagen design. Is there a theme emerging on age/milage of driveshaft failures suggesting when a batch of substandard components was fitted? Quote
sparky Paul Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 Talking of petrols, a relative of mine had a 2.0 petrol Mondeo which needed both driveshafts replacing at only 15,000 miles. Needless to say, he was most unimpressed and soon parted company with the car - he was also unimpressed with the attitude of Ford who refused to offer any help as the car was just outside of warranty. IIRC, the car was a 2001 model. I hope the 2.3 Galaxy doesn't have driveshafts sourced from the same manufacturer... Quote

If they failed tommorow I would have to say they had given reasonable service. Actually no, I wouldn't, I'd moan. Quote

At 63K, I reckon there's a bit more life left in my old bus yet! :D Quote
