Guest rambo Posted November 14, 2006 Report Posted November 14, 2006 hi all, whilst loosening my front wheel the other day i noticed when i applied pressure to the wheel brace to undo the wheel nut, both ways the wheel moved slightly forwards and backwards about qaurter of an inch ? is this normal or are my rubber bushes on my wishbones knackered ! if so how much are they to change ?can you just replace the rubber bushes ?is it a nightmare job for a D.I.Y.er ? ATB  Quote

ATB  As far as I recall you can get one of the bushes but not the other - although this may have changed. As they are rubber mounted I suppose a little movement is to be expected - but I don't know how much is acceptable. If you want to buy a new wishbone then look here: http://www.buypartsby.co.uk/wishbone_displ...xt&txtmake=FORD They are not too difficult to fit but you can have some problems taking the bottom swivel and the track rod end off if you don't have the allen bolt type sockets to hand. Good luck! Quote
tiny Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 If its only 1/4" I wouldn't worry, mine does around that and just sailed through its MOT in the last 2k. The fact that these are on rubber bushes rather than a more rigid joint allows for some movement. If the wishbone bushes are excessively worn the suspension geometry will be affected causing "toe out" which would be evident through uneven tyre wear (usually outer edges) and possible pull to one side of the road or other during driving, as well as potential noises depending on the severity of the wear. Guest rambo Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 thanx for the replies guys most helpful maybe the bushes are ok then, although i do get a slight noise, like a squealing when going in a straight line, which stops when i turn or brake, ive jacked the car up and spun the wheel but cant hear it then, the brake pads have about 25% of life left in them might just change the pads and see what that does cheers :D Quote
