polski Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 hi all, had a problem last week not being able to bleed clutch. its all become clear in hindsight.loss of clutch pedal getting lower caused me to try and bleed the clutch. big mistake.what had happened is that the master cylinder had a blockage in the end seal, not allowing and fluid to enter the system( 52.000 main dealer serviced).when i bled it, all i did was to let out what little pressure that was in the system ,out.( the clutch slave cylinder had started leaking, letting the fluid out slowly), check bottom of gearbox bell housing for tell tale oil leak.reassembled using new slave cylinder, and in the end, new master cylinder.the clutch pedal was being pulled to the floor, until there was enough pressure in the system to push it back up.i bled it in the end using a pressure bleeder, but when i went to move the car, i found out i had no servo for the brakes. i eventually ran the car carefully up and down the drive a few times, and the pedal came back soft as the servo cut back in. i can only put this down to the pressure bleeder. hope that this info may help somebody in the future. good luck polski Quote
Smilge Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 ;) Yea very useful thanks mate. So why did do think the servo took time to kick in? a little strange  Quote
polski Posted November 13, 2006 Author Report Posted November 13, 2006  Yea very useful thanks mate. So why did do think the servo took time to kick in? a little strange :blink:Hi,i agree , it is strange. ive never had a servo do this to me before, and it did make me check all the vacum pipe connections first, which, when it was pissing it down, wasnt something i really wanted to do! i dont know why the servo locked itself out in the first place. i can only put it down to the fact that had used a pressure bleeder. dont forget that the hydraulic fluid for the clutch is fed from the brake master cylinder. im was only too pleased that the servo decided to kick back in eventually.even if i was ready to torch the bloody thing by then!!! i just wanted to post the problems i had experienced, to give other people hope!! polski Quote
Sher Posted March 3, 2007 Report Posted March 3, 2007 I eventually got around to bleeding my Clutch Hydraulics. It makes very little difference to the problem I was experiencing of apparent air/slackness in the Hydraulic system What concerns me most now is the small horizontal movement (away from the engine towards the gearbox of 2/3mm) of the Bleed nipple device when the clutch is depressed. I am pretty sure this is not normal. I suspect this is the reason for the 2/3 cm slack on the clutch pedal before I feel pressure and the 3/4 cm movement from the floor at which the clutch just starts to bite. Is it possible that the combined slave cylinder clutch release bearing is not bolted securely to the inside of the bell housing or Gearbox? Any ideas? Quote
