Guest MATT jr Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 hi all, just got the galaxy back, and have been reading the papers they give you. it says theyve used duckhams 5W-30 oil is this ok? as the book says 5W-40 oil MJR ;) Quote
NikpV Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 ifts a pd engine it has to be a pd spec oil not just the correct viscosity needs to be vw 505.01 spec . Do duckhams do a suitable oil ? Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 duckhams 5w-30 oil it is a PD engine, and i think this is the wrong oil. ...and it seems duckhams dont do oil to VW505.01 spec! MJR Quote

MJR my gut reaction too - was it a ford garage - good policy is to supply the oil yourself or if its a ford ask them for the other 0.5l of formula sd that they put in (needs 4.5l out of the 5) this is useful for top ups and at least reminds them of the correct oil. Guest HairyPlateEater Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 Yep .. wrong oil ... take it back and get it changed to the right one. Can damage your engine if left in. Quote
jkspoff Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 Yeah, I've had same problem at main dealers, they have no idea about 505.01 oil, they use oil from a standard 'all for one' oil drum bought in bulk. Numpties they are the lot of them. Get it changed asap, bet they've put too much in too ! Do what I do and DIY, using oil extraction the easy and no mess way, then you can guarantee correct oil, and correct amount. Quote
Guest HairyPlateEater Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 Have you told your dad yet Matt? Bet he's happy lol Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 Thanks guys....its just gets better... they charged us Quote

JohnR Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 It happens quite often J........thats why a lot of members take their own oil along. I know, I've read that. Its just hysterical! Has anyone (to your knowledge) ever had an apology or recompense from Ford over this issue?? Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 ...just phoned them, he says although listed on the forms as 5W-30 - the oil they actually put in, is to VW505.01 spec. dont know whether i believe him or not. as for the mirror, he says they tested it, and the left one should be working, based on testing (thats checking there Quote

seatkid Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 The correct oil (and the reasons why) for the PD engine type has been discussed here in great detail if you do a search. I think part (or all) of the special requirements are to do with the turbo. The reason is the high shear force on the cams that drive the PD injectors. Wrong oil = premature camshaft/PD injector wear - For this reason alone I would never risk buying a second hand PD powered motor as I am convinced that 50% of servicing (main dealer or otherwise) - the wrong oil is used. Matt jr. ---- turn up on spec, ask the service manage to allow you to speak to the person who serviced your car. Then ask that person "Show me what oil you put in my car" and see what happens. If you don't get cooperation or you're not convinced, ask the manager nicely if he will drop the oil and refill it with the correct spec oil, and witness it. Remind him you have written proof the wrong oil was used, its not your fault that their QA or computer systems may be wrong....... Quote

JohnR Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 As for you Dad thinking that a Ford dealer knows what he Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 ok thanks guys... we took it back, they fitted a new mirror to the left wing mirror, and thats fine now - charged us just for the glass, which was Quote
jwilliams Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 My guess is that you will not be using them again. Are you going to name and shame them? So far I have found that the guys in Farnborough dealership do not hesitate in putting things right when you point out mistakes. As always there are good and bad. Mine will be going to an independent garage for servicing I will make sure I provide the oil. Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 ...well, we wont be name and shaming them, and we will be using them again. the reason for the 2nd chance is, weve had them to work before, with out mishap. next time we will be supplying the oil though. MJR Quote
adrianf. Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 I done my own oil change a few months ago and got the oil from Frauds. Just asked for oil for a Gal to see what the gave me. Amazement amazement they gave me the right stuff  So i guess SOME Frauds have a bit more idea than others but then again you wouldnt need much eh  Quote
NikpV Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 as for the oil, in their minds their certain theyve put the correct oil in, and refused to change it, unless we paid for the new oil, so we said we would leave it. I think in this case the use of the word MINDS seems an exaggeration - its not rocket science - its in the manual it must be in their service schedules - and they can also check with ford several ford dealers I know can get this bit correct - perhaps you are deprived whaere you live    Quote
raymac Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 When i got my oil and filter from ford dealer spot on and took time and effort to check all avenues, could be that this dealership mainly deals in servicing and repairs and no car sales ,i'll be using them shortly for my first service and will let you know how i get on  Quote
