Hi All,

 

This Is strictly just a thought (I seen this Question on a Seirra Forum whilst pointlessly Browsing).......Do you think it is possible to run a 2.3 bottom end with a 2.0 8v Head???

The bore and stroke are different on a 2.3, technically however the blocks are identical and the cam gearing is the same, so it should be possible. However it would probably run very rough as the ecu would need custom mapping to compensate.

yes i know what you mean, i had a small feeling someone would mention the ecu.

Are they not totally different engines.

 

e.g 2.0 is VW Design Engine and the 2.3 a Ford one.

only if you buy a VW or a SEAT, Ford put thier own 2.0 Engine in thier Galaxy, which technically is an enlarged version of the 2.3

I can confirm that the blocks are the same, they used the same in the later Scorpios (Frog eyed ones not Granada ones) and I have used a 2 litre block with a 2.3 head, had to have it remapped and a thick head gasket but otherwise was straight forward.

of course, i didn't realise that i made that mistake!!!!!!!obviously i meant the other way around :D

Yes it drove fine, IIRC I also had to change timing gear and manifolds etc as well.
