Guest bigal Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 Hi all, The fuel consumption is really poor on our Galaxy, we are getting 13/14 mpg round town. It doesnt get into fourth gear on most local trips (ie school run). Would changing the Lamba sensor help if so how much are they? Car runs ok apart from that. :( Cheers Alex Quote
seatkid Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 Lambda sensors control the fuel/air mixture by monitoring the exhaust oxygen content. To test if your Lambda sensor is working correctly, go to a (MOT type) garage with emission measuring equipment. Pesuade them for a fiver to test your exhaust emission, look at the O2 figure - should be 1.000 plus or minus a bit. No point in changing it if its working, IIRC costs around Quote
Guest bigal Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 Cheers Seatkid, you are probably right about the driving pattern. When i do go on journeys when it goes into fourth it goes up to 20+ mpg and about 29 mpg on motorway etc. I,ll have to get our kids into a school further from home. :( MOT due in March so will find out then if lambda sensor is ok. Shoved a shot of redex injector cleaner in and its back up to 23-25 on the same run after 2 treatments. Could of course be a difference in environmental conditions (weather/temperatre/wind etc) but seems a bit of a co-incidence to me. Might be worth a go, is cheap enough to try and it wont hurt to throw some in anyway! Quote
Guest bigal Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 HP tried the redex before the gearbox went, didnt really have chance to see results of it as only had car on the road for 9 days. I will try it again and see if there is any difference, as you say its pretty cheap and wont damage the car. Cheers Alex P.S. Have you handed out any flyers yet? :D Quote
Guest HairyPlateEater Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 P.S. Have you handed out any flyers yet? :D Loads .... my 10 year old son has taken on the task of "Galaxy Spotter" in supermarket car parks and sticks them under wipers! Handed them out to the peeps at the mids meet too so hopefully they're starting to circulate round the Midlands now! Thanks again Alex! ;) Quote

Guest BagPuss Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 Changed the Lambda Sensor a few weeks back as it was slow responding and didn't quite seem right when we had the Laptop hooked up. So that was replaced ( Quote
Guest bigal Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 Bagpuss it might be like HP said with the weather getting colder etc using more fuel. Of course it could be all the extra equipment you have fitted that is weighing it down. ;) Cheers Alex Quote
