Guest hughie Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 The high level brake light failled, from memory on this forum it's a common problem in the wiring duct from the main body to the tailgate. After removing the conduit there it was a broken black wire, and to my horror the insulation on six of the other wires was cracked in several places, Some only connected by a couple of strands. I have now repaired them all Do ford recognise this fault,Mine is a 1999 2.3, For peace of mind check yours, your lights could fail or worse a FIRE. Quote
Denis Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 Hughie, I can't answer your question about Ford's knowledge of this problem. Though I am interested to know if the foam rubber sleeving on your wiring loom, like mine, had dissolved into a gooey mess? My personal theory is that perhaps the residue from the foam attacks the PVC insulation on the cables. Quote
Guest hughie Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 Yes Denis, the sleeving is a mess also the wire insulation seems dry and brittle Quote
