Guest HairyPlateEater Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 As Nik said, if using it soley for vagcom then research both the vagcom version/connection cable requirements and the laptop specification together and make sure they will be compatible with each other. Anti virus will only bee needed (along with firewall, ad blocker, spyware removal etc) if you intend on connecting to t'internet. if so then free software is out there (AVG antivirus, Zone Alarm firewall etc) There are many places on the web that do second user refrbished laptops for under Quote
El Dingo Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 You could always install VAG-COM on your home PC, then make a *really* long extension cable... :( It does work with serial versions, but not recommended for USB. I tried it - I made a 8m long serial extension cable, and VAG-COM works just fine. Not recommended if you want to use VAG-Scope on the road. :( Quote
NikpV Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 Not recommended if you want to use VAG-Scope on the road. could buy a rolling road ;) I expect the laptop option is cheaper though :D :D :D Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 it works fine on the drive :16: ;) Quote
Guest bigelvis Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 Hi there, after having my desktop pc for years and an impending house move not far away i sold it and the huge unit it was in and have a Toshiba tecra m1 laptop, my home pc was a 2400xp with 512mb sdram and this one is faster than it and only 160 quid from ebay, didnt have an OS but have put xp on it and it runs great. 3 usb 2.0 and a serial port.So basically in answer to your question i would try ebay out look for something like mine if its just for vagcom then im sure someone on here can tell you the minimum spec needed. Jan949 Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 I have a used Lenovo T60, came with preinstalled XP and other useful programs. I'm pleased with it. Though tried to use it as a car GPS navigation, very uncomfortable. Must buy a special device (TomTom or something). Quote
