Guest Neiliboy Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 Hi all, just googled 'ford galaxy forums' and here you all are.... I've seen a 99T Ghia X tdi Auto 110hp in black with 65 k on theclock and i'm thinking of buying it to replace my Audi A4. I have two kids and a business so need a practical car that i can use if ever my business vehicle ever broke down, and of course somet for the wife to use as a runaround. I havnt actually seen the galaxy yet but its got 6 leather captains seats and the Ghia x pack (which I'm not 100% sure includes. Can anyone shed any light? If my missus is driving this in town will it be very efficient? I understand that motorway driving should be good. When i go and view the galaxy what should i be looking out for? Do they tend to go wrong often or not? The only two things that are putting me off are the interior dash layout (its horrible!) and the service history has been lost - do they cost alot to service btw? Will it be easy to replace the standard ford stereo with somet a bit more ipod/mp3 friendly? um....I cant think of any other q's for now but will ask as i remember. Many thanks in advance for your help  Quote
suzuki91 Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 i avoided the 6 seater because you lose the lugage space if you carry 3 or 4 passengers in the back.and you get used to size of the car quickly, its shorter than some estates? good up high driving seat. autos pay more road tax as well. Guest VR6! Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 Ghia X had front fogs, 5 spoke 16'' alloys and tinted glass, heated seats? CC the leather seats (Oyster Beige) were available at an extra cost! usual checks apply, all elecctrically operated items, CC, CL...etc ABS, cruise control......and so on.... When i go and view the galaxy what should i be looking out for? Do they tend to go wrong often or not? The only two things that are putting me off are the interior dash layout (its horrible!) and the service history has been lost - do they cost a lot to service btw? Will it be easy to replace the standard ford stereo with somet a bit more ipod/mp3 friendly? have you seen a Mk2 dash! still say it's a stupid place to stick a clock ! :) as for changing the HU it's a fairly easy job but as the Ghia X has the OE amp you will need either the correct set of adaptor leads to mate to it or to bypass it? plus it should have the Cd multichanger? so you may need a head unit with changer controls or just junk it all and post it on eBay  Quote
seatkid Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 Can anyone shed any light? Most members have torches I think......If my missus is driving this in town will it be very efficient? Depends on your missusWhen i go and view the galaxy what should i be looking out for? A large vehicle with 4 tyres and Ford Galaxy stickers.Do they tend to go wrong often or not?Often or not they do.do they cost alot to service btw?Yes but so do most carsWill it be easy to replace the standard ford stereo with somet a bit more ipod/mp3 friendly?Pass..the service history has been losthow convenient... ...check at a Ford Dealer for evidence of regular servicing and true mileage on their computer system, if you can't find it, get an expert inspection......get an expert inspection anyway. Demand a BIG discount for unknown history. The list of things to check is long and I'm sure someone will be along and inform you better than me.... I'll start it off....In addition to the standard checks when buying a new vehicle also check.... Have the CAMBELT /TENSIONER/IDLERS been changed? Demand receipts..... A/c system is working and if it has had recent work it may indicate it may not be fixed..... Engine performance - is the 0 - 60 mph time correct? Does it start first touch? No smoke? Autobox - are all gears working smoothly and in the correct fashion, no strange vibration or noises, has it been used for towing? Are Windscreen wipers working fully and smoothly Check all electrics particularly, electric windows, central locking, all rear lights - looms at door and tailgates often break. Check for smells or evidence of water in the footwells, could cause expensive electrical damage. Leaks into these areas are common. Check spare wheel carrier mechanism works. theres lots more...... NikpV Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 crushed sills - crouch 5 meters away at each side of the car and look at the line of the sills - common to have a kink just behind front wheel or in front of back - jacking point not used not too serious but negotiating point ( Quote
anadin Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 h.p.i. check with protection, before you hand over the money Quote
Guest HairyPlateEater Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 Ghia X model should have Climate control AND sunroof and heated front seats above the standard Ghia trim level. A lot of Ghias are advertised as Ghia X to make them sound better, command a little more money, and because the vendor doesn't know the difference, but aren't. IIRC the Mk1 galaxy (which this will be) doesn't have any compatible head units that can utilise the steering wheel audio controls even with adaptors, so this functionality will be lost with any H/U upgrade. (I hope I'm wrong with this as I'd love to upgrade mine but don't want to lose the steering wheel controls. Haven't seen anything which says it can be done on here though) Quote
