hi all,

just a few points about my gal, (some of you will have already seen a badly taken pic a week or so ago!)

1. Changed the plugs on it before i went to pwlhelli on Monday afternoon (290 mile round trip), only got back 8.00pm thurs evening, noticed like a misfire when hot only happens VERY occasionally and did not really bother me to be honest, just thought it deserved a mention though (Yes i have changed the fuel filter) also remember the exact same symptom on my freinds 1.8 zetec mondeo??? seems to happen when the engine is hot and accelerating in a high gear but it does not do it all that often thankfully.

2. When steering lock to lock i.e when parking in our narrow driveway, i can hear like a clunk from the front end but can't quite put my finger on what it could be.

3. When starting up from cold i can hear like a tappet clatter from the engine it only lasts for about 2 seconds and disappers the same time the oil light goes out on the dash, the car has done this ever since i have owned it, i have been told it is the hydraulic cam chain tensioner building up pressure and i nothing to worry about but just want to know what you gurus think. (engine on 124k FFSH, until i got it and now it gets done by me :angry: )

Thanks a lot people

Yours

Big Dave

Mine started doing that 'misfire' or hesitation.

After a 100k Service where they changed filters, plugs etc, the problem was still there.

I was thinking Fuel Filters or maybe even Coil Packs....

In the end I changed the HT Leads as it looked like at least 2 were breaking down and it know runs like a dream.

My original post might help you as I wrote quite a bit about the symptons and quite a few replied.

So may help with a few pointers.

My post is ---> Here!

As for the tappet sounds thats normal as is nothing to worry about.....unless it continues after a long period of time, then try bleeding them if not they'll need changing.

Welll thats how it is on my Scirocco, it has Hydraulic Tappets.

Re: 2. That clunk, on full lock, is likely to be a worn out CV joint. Search the forums, and you'll find lots of information.

Re: 3. Don't worry too much, unless the clatter is still there after the oil pressure has had time to build up. I think it's worn hydraulic tappets, however, even brand new VW engines sometimes do this. (I'm not saying that yours is a VW engine by the way... ;) )
