Guest simon D Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 Hi everyone,I i have a water leak on the drivers side have discovered it is running down the inside of the trim drivers side next to the bonnet release .Has totally ruined the underlay what i cant find is the source of where its getting in the trim on the roof where it joins the window screen is loose so maybe there.Went into fords for some friendly advice explained where it is coming in from inside the vehicle hopeing they might have some clues, all i got was you will have to book it in so we can see for ourselfs at a cost of 50 pound! Then went on to tell me i would probaly have to take the dash out!! Ford are the last people i would entrust this job to.Im going to sort the leak, fix the airbag warning light for the second time, MOT it and flog it far to many problems for a four year old car.Money pit is what ive called the gal.wont ever buy another ford Going for an audi next . Any ideas on where the water might be getting in would be greatly appreciated regards simon Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 Strange fault. Sounds like it has been accident damaged or otherwise badly repaired sometime. You will need to check the post/scuttle area for leaf blockage? Not sure why you believe you have a Ford. The vehicle is a VW (=Audi). So you would be jumping out of the fire.... If you look at a Passat interior you will see the same parts/equipment. Quote
Guest simon D Posted November 5, 2003 Report Posted November 5, 2003 Thanks For the reply i can confirm there has been no accident damage and the scuttle drains are clear.I will try and solve it at the weekend i just detest paying main dealer prices and being a marine engineer im used to water leaks !! So now im put off audis too ! regards simon Quote
johnb80 Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 It's not just Ford and Audi's, my mate has a Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 Take as much trim off as you can, then put the car though a nice automatic car wash in bright daylight and keep watching very closely. This should soon enable you to find the source of the leak.If the carpet stays dry, then the water is coming in from underneath somewhere. You could try sitting in the car and getting someone to point a hosepipe in strategic places if you don't fancy the carwash option. Mussey1 Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 If you sprinkle some talcum powder around where the leak is coming in and then soak the car with hosepipe, any drip or run of water will leave a trace behind. I once had a Cavalier that leaked in the boot and I used this method. It worked!! Was a bit messy though!! By the way does yours have a sunroof?? It could be a blocked drainage channel causing water to run down the inside of the 'A' pillar. Good Luck. Mussey1. Quote
Guest simon D Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 Hi i have managed to find the source of the water ingress without taking the dash out !!THe trim surrounding the window screen wipers is the problem, where it fixes into the window screen framing one of the fixings had snapped allowing water to enter the vehicle.when water was directed into this hole it flooded into the car im guessing this happened at the last service when it was dismantled to fit the pollen filter but proving it will be hard. Anyway im now water tight once again thanks for the suggestions and i hope this may help someone in the future.Regards simon Quote
