insider Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 I bought a new Ford Galaxy TDI 115 manual in February 2005. It has now covered 10,000 miles and had its first service back in February 2006. I've noticed an interesting phenomenon during acceleration. It usually occurs in higher gears (3rd or 4th) from cruising at a constant speed, e.g. 30mph, then suddenly flooring the accelerator. After the short turbo lag the engine seems to surge, then drops back, then surges again and drops back, etc. as though it is oscillating (the accelerator pedal position is unchanged throughout). Is the drop in engine revs caused by the ECU compensating for over-boost? Is this a normal occurrence or does the engine need some fine tuning? I also understand that this vehicle has a dual-mass flywheel. Is it possible that this is not damping the engine oscillations? Should I just get the Dealer to sort it out at the next service? Quote

Dunno m8 ... I'll leave the Gal experts for this .... My Mondeo suffered from Turbo lag and a flat spot around 1800 revs but not oscillations. When you "floor" it, are you revving it to the limit cos the rev limiter might be kicking in? Quote
insider Posted November 1, 2006 Author Report Posted November 1, 2006 No, it never gets anywhere near the rev limit. It might get to 3,000, drop back to 2,000, then back up again, etc. Quote
