dynomikered Posted October 31, 2006 Report Posted October 31, 2006 Hi im fitting my flip down dvd today and i would like to ask if there are any hazards i have to look out for, i dont have a sunroof and no air con in the back. Also what is the best "LIVE" to conect to from the roof. have done a search before i get flamed and it says manley watch out for sunroofs thanks in advance :D mike L-I-V-E-R-P-O-O-L F.C. Quote
Guest VR6! Posted October 31, 2006 Report Posted October 31, 2006 have done a search before i get flamed and it says manley watch out for sunroofs thanks in advance :D mike Well if you have a problem standing around and looking all butch and manely play with your tools then try and look a bit a camp and womanly :P well you walked into that one face first :P but back onto the topic in hand.... it depends on how you wish to operate the unit? linked into an ignition feed so that if it's left on by mistake it doesnt drain the battery! or permenantly powered? either way your best bet is double up with the feed to the DVD player, and then it depends on where your going to mount that? in the rear cubby hole by/above the jack? run a new supply, under the seat? again a new supply or tap into the rear power point feed, under the dash? tap into the radio supply or run a new one? it's up to you>? dynomikered Posted November 2, 2006 Author Report Posted November 2, 2006 Yes done it today, not to hard just fiddly. First of all i used the wiring diagram (that i found on here )off the back of the stereo. I cut into the ignition from the radio and also the ground to power the dvd player so it stays on when the key is in the ignition. I then fitted the dvd player under the glove box, i secured it to the underside of the glove box using a piece of ply, sounds a bit ugly but fits lovely out of sight (i screwed the ply to a bit of the plastic that had a lip to it )the picture looks a bit naf but trust me it looks good. The wires you can see are for the video control box that the bad man from ebay  did not send but refunded me the cost Quote
Guest VR6! Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 You may be better off moving the DVD player closer to the gear box hump! after the passenger smacks their shins on it a few times the muttering under their breath will give the impression that yes you have done a good job but did you have to stick it right there where my legs go? another small point, turn the mounting brackets inwards so that the supports are above the DVD player, this will allow you to use a smaller mounting plate and give a cleaner look to to the install :) plus moving it to one side will allow a more lady like seating position when it comes to changing the discs :D Quote

Smilge Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 I've already got the Journey pack fitted to mine Dyno but I must say what a smart job m8. Good idea on how you fitted the screen to the roof, I would have ummd and arrd at cutting a slit in the headliner. What glue did you use to stick the plywood? So have you got the audio running through the Head Unit cos I want to do the same so the kiddies dont have to wear the headphones? Quote

strouf Posted November 3, 2006 Report Posted November 3, 2006 I then fitted the monitor securing a piece of ply to the roof under the headling, i did this by cutting a slit with a very sharp knife so that it would slide through securing it with a strong adhesive. This sure is an easy way to mount the monitor to the roof. What is that "strong adhesive" you used? What is the size /weight of the monitor ? I was just now looking for a way to fit mine. There is only one roof brace that is close and can be used. Still I need one more securing point. Quote
dynomikered Posted November 3, 2006 Author Report Posted November 3, 2006 No nails( in 5 big blobs) , i waited for it to go of. i dont know if you can see it but ther is a slight crease in the headling were the ply sits. The ply was about 5mm thick and the size of the holding plate, i slit the roof because if i sell the Gal i will leave the dvd and monitor in as it was only Quote
