took the gal out last night, and all of a sudden, all my inside lights went off.

dash lights,console lights,drivers panel,passengers side also..

as well as number plate lights...

fuse 28(3amp).was blown,

so changed it ,and blew again

i think i might have a naughty instrument dimmer switch

when i disconect this switch, will my lights still come on ,inside the car

all lights outside work fine

i have taken the switch out,but the lights still wont come on(but number plate lights are now working

also when i reconect the switch, for a second the lights come on

any input or ideas whould be great please ;)

also just had my rear light smashed not a good day ;)

umm so you are suddenly getting a short which blows the fuse - have you recently knocked the dimmer ? wonder about those lights in the doors - must get their power through the rubber boots - wonder if you've got a short in those wires - try manipluating the drivers door boot and try another fuse ;)

Pretty straight forward this Gooner .... switch connected ...fuse blows

switch removed .... fuse OK but cluster lamps not working

You have a short somewhere .... have you got a meter that can measure resistance? You can then find which pins to measure and check that the track resistance does not read 0Ω during movement of the pot. This would indicate a short. Without a wiring diagram for the Gal I cant tell you where to go next but I would tend to isolate the next stage of the circuit by disconnecting a plug and then con checking pin to pin to make sure there were no shorts. I'm waiting for a TIS disc of MO4 and hopefully there should be some wiring diagrams on that.

Hope this helps a little Gooner

hi guys all sorted thank god :P

spoke to a m8 at fords, and he told me to connect a bulb to the fuse holder number 28

,and go round the car, when the light goes out ,thats the problem

well i did

and it was a short ,on the passengers door panel,i had put in a 7000mcd blue led

and the wire had came away and was touching the 12volt feed

anyway,all sorted now

will put the car all back tomorrow,if the rain holds off

big big thank you to bleeno and nikp(you are both stars)

cheers guys

???? Could you explain this , please?

:) glad you fixed it m8, could see that turning into a nightmare! Strouf, by placing a bulb in the fuseholder was just an indication that the circuit was drawing more than 3 amps which would have blown the fuse. By disconnecting various plugs in the circuit, you isolate the short to earth or short to another wire. If the light goes out, the short must be forward of the disconnected plug or unit.
