Wasphouse Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 Has anyone tried changing valve stem seals on a PD engine in situ? Got one that has around 102k on the clock runs fine but when accellerating hard it chucks out a bit of smoke and I was thinking it may be the valve stem seals. I think they can be changed without removing the head - The camshaft looks like ity has to come off but that's all. Any advice? Quote
bigdaddy Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 I am not a diesel owner,,,,but all diesels chuck out smoke when the pedal is hard on the floor,,,,,, what colour is the smokegrey is oilblack is the diesel doing its jobI believe white is unburned fuel you will get tons of smoke on start up as the engine burns the oil that has passed the oil seal,,,and it would be more grey than black Quote

tim-spam Posted October 31, 2006 Report Posted October 31, 2006 I would agree that it's probably best left alone - what's the oil consumption like? If it's around 2000 miles per litre or better, you do not have a problem. The manufacturer actually states that up to 1000 miles per litre is OK. Quote
