Guest raj Posted November 2, 2003 Report Posted November 2, 2003 Ok new to the forum but seems really helpful. I have a x reg new shape 1.9 tdi auto ghia. Never had any probs with it at all except a couple of bulbs going and the fuel gauge problem which from reading the forum of lot of galaxys seem to have. however in the last week the following has happened. Glow plug light flashingtrip computer frozen and stays lit up even when no key in ignition and car locked.does sometimes came back on though.then all dials and gauges stopped working and wouldn't light up then came back about 48 hours later.now i get an airbag warning light up and brake lights no longer working, one bulb was out already but hadn't got round to changing it yet. current mileage is 25k and is due its 3rd annual service in the next month and first mot. How bad does this sound? does it seem like a major electronic fault or could it be something simple causing it. any help welcome raj Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted November 2, 2003 Report Posted November 2, 2003 Sounds like a loose connection or blown fuse (or both).Probably straightforward, but sometimes it can take ages to track down the fault.Good luck.Oh, and welcome to the forum.Ivor Quote
Guest raj Posted November 2, 2003 Report Posted November 2, 2003 thanks for the welcome don't think it's a blown fuse as I've checked them already and all seem to be intact. One person I know suggested the solar flare we had over the past few daysbut I think that is highly unlikely but good for a laugh. I'm going to book it in at the dealers on monday anyway so i'll see what they say thanks for the suggestions Quote
Tigger Posted November 2, 2003 Report Posted November 2, 2003 I don't know if it will help. I had a problem with the glow plug light comming on in traffic. It was the brake pedal switch. It always happened after towing must have been overloading it. Changed switch . no more problems. Probably nothing to do with your problem. Hope you sort it. These niggles get to you sometimes. Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted November 2, 2003 Report Posted November 2, 2003 Assuming you have the radio code, try disconnecting the battery for 10 mins.. Quote
Guest tazzy62 Posted November 2, 2003 Report Posted November 2, 2003 hi, also look at the brake lights/glow plug light post on this forum. i recently had some of your symptoms and cured it by replacing the stop light switch. computers are weird things and can easily be upset. a mechanic friend once described ECU's as "fast idiots", a pretty good description i'd say! taz. Guest Gary Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 :( Hi guys. New to the site, as I have suddenly had electrical problems too, after no problems since May when I bought my 2.3 Galaxy 3rd hand. Last week, for no reason, the driver's electric window stopped reponding to the controls. The passenger side window could be put down, but not up! The passenger side windows COULD be controlled by the passenger switches. I've seen this exact problem listed before, but haven't read of any solutionto it. Any ideas?Yesterday BOTH rear brake lights stopped working - I was nearly rammed into! With no lights showing, that would invalidate the insurance (also a MOT fail!!). Checked bulbs - both OK. Checked fuses and all OK. Any ideas? The wiring harness to the rear light, indicator and brake light comes down from INSIDE the car, and doesn't get flexed by the tailgate. So unlikly to be broken cables. Does the switch activated by the brake pedal - I can hear it clicking on and off - cause problems? How can I remove it?Thanks, Gary :( Quote
Guest tazzy62 Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 gary, search for brake light/glow plug light problems and in one of the threads somewhere i have described exactly how to replace the brake light switch. it's really easy. it can be done without removing the lower fascia but it's awkward that way and new switch is almost interference fit so probably as quick to do it the long way and preserve your knuckles. taz. Guest Gary Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 :( Thanks to everyone who gave ideas.I located the brake pedal switch which was not closing properly. so no brake lights! As a temporary measure I eased the plunger a few times and this has made a difference. At least the brake lights work again. About 15 minutes to get to the switch, and 5 to put everything back again. Pouring with rain all the time! Where can I get a replacement switch without paying silly prices? The brake switch is actually a VW Audi make, made in 1997. I have the part number. Does anyone have a website to order these things from? Would a VW website be useful? Thanks :( Quote
