foxyfowler Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 Hi JohnR I have searched on the forum for more information on how to get started using VAG-COM, and in particular to the correct cable and version of shareware to use. There have been a number of links into ebay items, but it is not clear which of these cables will work with which model Galaxy. I have a 2001, 1.9 TDi, 115 bhp and a Sony laptop that provides USB connectivity only. This problem must have been encoutered before and I am sure that the information does exist somewhere within this forum. Any idea where I might find it? Would appreciate any advice foxyfowler Quote
jkspoff Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 Hi Foxy, I have exactly the same set up as you in your bove post, same model Gal and even the Sony Vaio laptop, I use one of the cheap ebay cables that I eventually found a driver for and got working perfectly with the shareware version of VAG COM. Take the plunge and check out this link: http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...mp;#entry102377 Quote

foxyfowler Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 Hi Foxy, I have exactly the same set up as you in your bove post, same model Gal and even the Sony Vaio laptop, I use one of the cheap ebay cables that I eventually found a driver for and got working perfectly with the shareware version of VAG COM. Take the plunge and check out this link: http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...mp;#entry102377 Hi jkspoff Purchased an Autonostic USB cable on ebay, item http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=230104697271 Downloaded VAG_COM 409.1 from Ross Tech. Also downloaded XP driver from the Autonostic website and got it to work eventually using COM port 3 and not USB!!!! Plugged into car and selected Chassis Model as Sharan. Tried autoscan but all addresses came up with ITE=0 which means no communications with controller. It cycled through all the internal addresses but always with the same result. The Baud rate is set to 0 as per default settings. Have you any ideas what I am doing wrong? Any ideas appreciated. Quote
tim-spam Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 Am looking to get Vag.com anybody recomend a sellerRoss Tech in the US - you can order direct from their website. You will pay more for the lead than from the ebay sellers, but you will get the genuine lead with the activation built in, and be able to use VAGCOM on more than one computer. It will work 'straight out of the box' and the support from Ross Tech is first class. Quote
jkspoff Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 (edited) You will only be able to selective fault code searches, not the full auto unless you have activated to the full version and paid VAG COM the $99. Do you get the successful connection message ? Edited March 23, 2007 by jkspoff Quote
foxyfowler Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 I can successfully run the 'Test' from the options menu in Vag-Com. When i connect to the vehicle the two red LED's light but when it starts to run the diagnostic all I get is the message ITE=0 in the top left had corner of the display. It then shows that it is waiting for a few seconds and then re-tries. It does this about 4 times before it gives up. I am going to try de-installing the lead today and then re-install under the XP Control panel / Add Hardware and load the driver via a memory stick. I may be able to force it this way, to taking the correct driver. Failing this I will probably order a lead from Ross Tech. Quote
foxyfowler Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 Have given up with the Autonostic USB lead. Have wasted too many hours trying all sorts of fixes. Have now ordered the lead from Ross-Tech. At least they answer emails which is more than Autonostic or the Ebay seller does! Thank you to all who gave advice. Quote
Guest foxy Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 In conclusion to my problems connecting the Autonostic lead; now solved by binning it and buying the correct product direct from Ross-Tech in the USA. Super fast delivery by FedEx and it worked the very first time with no glitches. If anyone in or around Devizes in Wiltshire want to have a diagnostic test / code reset I would be pleased to help (for a pint or two of local brew) provided that you come to my home. Just email me to arrange a mutually agreeable time. Quote

davgree Posted June 15, 2007 Report Posted June 15, 2007 Hi, can you correct a faulty milage reading with Ross Tech vag com system? Thanks, Dave. I don't think we want to go there, the Moderators will have a fit Milage display has totaly failed, just a grey led mess! Have a second hand cluster but told buy Fraud it will cost approx Quote
big_kev Posted June 15, 2007 Report Posted June 15, 2007 I am not sure on this and hopefully someone will correct me...but I believe that the mileage is held on the ECU and not the cluster ( wait to see if anyone replies ). Also it is likely that changing the cluster may be more problamatic than you think and I would suggest searching the forum for further info. from members who have tried this in the past. Quote
davgree Posted June 15, 2007 Report Posted June 15, 2007 OK, Thanks for that, I will wait for some more info. Cheers, Dave. Quote

johnswlondon Posted August 6, 2007 Report Posted August 6, 2007 if you have a state of the art machine dripping with every conceivable extra, code readers are a very handy device at saving a lot of time.unless you have a specific fault eg abs or emissions, these code readers are of far more limited practical use Quote
