ashypd51 Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 hi, thinking of swtching from 215 55 16,s to 215 60 16,s to compensate for really naff bumpy roads up here. the arches are large enough to accomodate, and i know that they need to be r/forced.any other members done same for a comfier ride, any other issues to bear in mind?cheers...........ashy ps can the idle speed be turned dowm with vag com, my gal 1.9 manual tdi ticks at around 950 rpm. is that normal? thx Quote
wood73 Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 to alter the size of tyres can have an impact on the speedo reading due to rolling circumference, to change the size you to keep this the same, a rough guide is for every 5 of the aspect ratio(i.e.- 55, 60) you change you need to adjust the width by 10, so you would need to fit 205/60/16 to replace 215/55/16.also you'd need to change the spare as well to keep legal when it is fitted.i'd try adjusting pressures slightly first as this can have a dramatic effect on ride.hope this helps Quote
soptom Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 Not all tyres of nominally the same size have the same rolling circumferance, a new tyre and worn tyre will give similar differences (do you notice a speedo difference from worn to new tyres)? As long as they fit the rim safely, try what you want.
