Has anyone else had a problem with their galaxy automatically locking itself?

This has happened to me on several occasions. I have made sure that I am not pressing the remote or that it is getting caught on clothing etc. I even tried putting the key inside the house after I had unlocked the car and it still happened.

Curiously, it never happens if I have the boot open.

I can see it being just a matter of time until i put the keys down inside the car when putting the kids in, shut the door and then it locks the kids inside with me on the outside.

I'm beginning to get paranoid that there is someone following me around with an identical remote key having a right laugh.

Just check to see if you have water leaking in under the passenger seat. I believe there is a central locking and electric windows module in there, if water has leaked in and got to the electrics, it could play havoc and lock the car.

I had a lot of water ingress on mine but i took it to the dealer, under warranty and they seem to have fixed it but i haven't taken any chances. I have raised the metal plate that this module is on by 3/4" and also made a hole through the big grommet that is under there, so if any great amount of water gets in, it just runs out through the hole.

never had the problem. I think Xeno' refers to the parking distance sensor control box that can be damaged with water when the rear screenwash feeder pipe ruptures within the nearside sill area. Ford have been aware of this weakness for some-time and "should have overcome it" If your dealer deny's this - shop somewhere else! I also raised the module plate under the seat, and superglued the water pipe over over the knuckle of the joint then wrapped copper wire around the pipe(inside the knuckle) then taped over the wire to prevent metal noise interference on fm radio

Hi,

If it's a new(ish) Galaxy it will lock itself IF you have unlocked it AND not opened any doors or tailgate within a minute or so (not certain of the time). You need not worry about putting the keys inside, once the door has been opened the system won't lock without the door locks / keyfob being operated.

Lots of new cars have this security feature including my new Smart car.

New Gals will eself-lock if left unlocked for about 30 seconds with no door being opened; it is sometimes very frustrating!

It is a wise precaution with any car that gas central locking never to leave the keys inside the car if nobody is inside; my local VW dealer has a big sign in his workshop:

"If the keys are in the car, make sure you are".

A few years back, when I worked in Swindon, one of our employees fom our scottish office flew to Heathrow and stoped overnight at the travellodge or equivalent on the nearby M4 services. In the morning he tarted his hire-car and left the engine running whilst he scraped the ice off the windows. Whilst he was doing this, the central locking self-activated and he could not stop the engine or get into the car - even tried putting his shoe over the exhaust pipe to stall the engine.

Breakdown service was called, they couldn't get into the car and ended up dragging it into the middle of the m'way services car park whilst they waited for their senior technician to arrive - this was because the under-bonnet area was getting VERY hot.

Eventually the correct technical help arrived, the car was opened and the engine stopped. On opening the bonnet, the fuel line was in the process of melting!

The breakdown person(s) on the scene told my former colleague that this was not an isolated incident, and that you should never leave a car with central locking unattended with the engine running.

Be warned!
