I can see no reason yet to close this topic, it is a debating forum some of the views expressed have been extreme and some interesting and some incredibly callow - but we are a cross section of society and surely we can expect that - why do you want to close the topic???

 

However in Seacam we appear to have some sort of quasi political posturist who believes the only intelligent position is his own. Other opinions are not valid.

 

surely this is the essense of debate

 

 

you can now respond, putting forward your arguments so of which may sway others who perhaps haven't formed opinions/not thought it through yet as with most debates you cannot change the main protagonists views

I have no problems with you voicing your opinions on me, I have a problem that you as a moderator tread a fine line and you singling me out like that is unfair and an abuse of position, I hope others will tell you that to but so be it.

 

With that lack of imparciality the very arguments you wish others to put forward, the debates you should wish to see on this forum, you stiffle.

 

I've done nothing but put forward my views, my position and done my upmost to welcolme others, that is the essence of debate.

As a moderator you will know things us members don't but as you won't explain the cost, one can only speculate.

 

If you mean members you have got to know have decided to leave because of this thread, that is sad and unnecessary.

 

Except for one post, this thread, IMO ,should have caused no offence, it's been excellent and all the contributors have behaved gentlemanly and ladylike and with restraint, 'cept for the full spelling of swear words and your right to point that out.

 

I'm new to this forum, I enjoy and welcome reading your posts and all the others but as I stated in my Correcting Others" thread I won't dance around people.

 

Logic dictates you can't have a debate without offending one or two people.

 

But the rules on this forum are a little hit and miss, let me explain.

 

I mentioned a post earlier on and that was of Bagpuss, he posted a photograph of four woman in full dress and wearing the niqab, that should have been pulled, ( just the photo'), why? because it was clearly racist in it's intent.

 

Bagpuss's photo' wasn't posted to educate us, to say look this is what people might fear, or would this scare children, his sole intent was to hold these woman and their kind up to ridicule, to have them/their culture mocked, this was clear racist intent and you or Neil should have pulled it, I was gob smacked it wasn't.

 

Having written the above I still feel a little uneasy in doing so simply because there is a side of me that strongly defends Bagpuss right to post his photo' but that photo' should have been pulled.

 

 

In this thread you have stated " this is an open forum", that swear words spelled in full is a no no, why who/what are you protecting?

 

Rest easy Maz and you to Neil, this is your house, them is your rules and I accept them but will question them if need be, meanwhile will someone please, please explain to me why swear words needs to be abbreviated.

If any post you believe is unacceptable, then all you have to do is report it via the report button and state your reasons why you are reporting the said post.Then either myself or Neil will investigate it.

 

Who are we protecting....our youngest member is 13 years old,Would you like any child of yours to read the language you came out with?..As i am on here whilst my kids are around then i for one do not want my children to see that kind of language.

 

We the moderators are here to protect all of you..There is no reason to fully swear on this forum..yes we may all swear...but that does not mean we have to inflict it on the forum in this manner.Abbreviations are fine as we all know what they mean...

 

An open forum means that it not an over 18s forum only..so threfore anyone of any age may come on here.

 

There are posting guidlines pinned in the general section.

 

You say this is mine and Neils house, it is not..it is everyones who come here..we are the bouncers if you will..we are here to help you when you need help to guide you where we can, and if any offence is caused to any member by another member, then we will deal with that situation within the guidelines set down for us.

 

We cannot just go round closeing threads because we have been asked to..there has to be reason.We do not delete/remove posts..without good reason.

 

This forum has it's own life, we all correct each other..i have lost count of the amount of times i have been corrected but i take it in the good fun it is meant.We all have our different mannerisms and it takes time to learn them, in the meantime it is so easy to take offence when none is intended.

 

I say again..if you have any problems with any posts..then please report it..there is no good in just pming me saying look at this thread because....report it via the report button that is at the bottom of every post.Then clearly state your reasons why you are reporting it be it spam, offensive, racist, sexist etcc..

 

I also reiterate..that at no point whatsoever for whatever reason must anyone ever swear like that.No one can..The ramifications are too great.Abbreviate or misspell it or use the star key by all means.
