Rallim Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 I'm just loooking for clarification... I was under the impression that tow bars which fit a mk1 galaxy/sharan/alhambra will fit a mk2. More specifically an original 'ford' galaxy tow bar will fit my mk2 Sharan? I'm sure I have seen it somewhere on the Forum but my initial searches did not pull out a definitive answer.... I'm not concerned about the wiring as I know they made it more awkward in the mk2 and I have already fitted a socket for a bike rack light board. TIA. Gordon. Quote
bigdaddy Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 witter fixed towbars have different part numbers for a mk1 and mk11,,,,,,so I must assume they are not compatible Quote
Smilge Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 The towball heights are totally different Gordon. I met a guy on holiday who had a Mk 1 and asked to measure the height of mine. His was something like 16" and mine 18". Although both were Witter towbars mine was the correct height for towing his van....mmmmm??? He did mention though that a newer Witter bar addressed this problem and that he would still be able to fit it to his Mk 1 because the rear chassis attachment points were exactly the same . Hope this helps Chris Quote
Rallim Posted October 20, 2006 Author Report Posted October 20, 2006 he would still be able to fit it to his Mk 1 because the rear chassis attachment points were exactly the same . Thanks for the information, I think this is what I was remembering reading that the mounts are the same, but unaware of the height differences... :D I'd seen a ford mk1 tow bar on ebay in my town, so it got me wondering...
