My '95 Galaxy Aspen is sick!!!! I bought it with a slight 'tappet' noise thinking it wouldn't be much of a problem.... :( Flushed system and put new oil and filter in - no difference. (yes it was the correct oil) Had a local mechanic take a look and he reports that the cams and tappets are OK but the compression is down on No's 1 and 4 cyclinder and it is throwing oil out of the exhaust - his advice - new engine! AAaaagghhh

Local companies are quoting approx.

If you've lost compression on 2 cylinders, may be cheaper to have all 4 cylinders renewed with appropriate piston rings fitted to compensate for wear. If this is all that's wrong, it should be cheaper than a recon engine. Do you have accress to a good garage that you can trust to do the work at a reasonable hourly charge?

Good luck.

I agree a simple rebuild is just the ticket ,hone the bores, new rings, decoke and fit new valve stem oil seals in the head replace any dicky hydraulic lifters, new timing chain/guides,this would and will be better than any recon unit you could buy, after all recon units only have the minimal parts fitted which are required to get them back to a standard running format.

good luck

:D :D :D
