Galaxy 2.3 petrol, Auto 03 plate.

I assume my car key is IR, when I lock the vehicle, the little red light on the drivers door slowly blinks and keeps flashing is this ok.

The car has an alarm. I've heard it twice, to turn it off I bliped the key, no probs', I don't know what I did to make it go off, any ideas?

I have to keep pressing the key fob several times to unlock the vehicle, is this just the battery in the fob, is it just a question of changing battery or is there more to it?

I read some threads' on the site that mentioned it might be posible to swap the Ford key fob for my Galaxy for a flic type as with the VW Sharan.

Has any one succesfully achived this on my year and model of Galaxy?

change te battery - don't lose the pats chip and reprogram - provided there isnothing else wrong it is very easy to reprogram - see faq - coding sharan remote key fob - second post IIRC - Seatkids you really can't do anything wrong

Hello NicpV,

Sorry I think I may have edited my reply to you, so to repeat it,

If my key fob is not IR how does it work and would a VW Sharan fob work on the same princable and would I need to use a VW fob from the same year of car?

remote entry from mid 1997/1998 is wireless radio based 433/434MHz can't remember which, Sharan keys should work (after the changeover years) some of the flip type keys also work but I don't know if its just a frequency matching problem or whether there are different types

two ways that always set off our alarm.

1) sit in car and use the remote to lock the car, sit still for a minute then wave arms around ;) kids love this :D

2) from outside the car with a door open lock the car with the remote, carefully close the door so that it just latches (without fully closing) wait a minute and then try opening the door ;) wife is always doing this :D

Oh, my youngest kids are goin to love that, and that's excactly what happen first time, I was sitting in the car, I must have locked it, I went to start the car, alarm went off.

Must try your second example.

I'm going to do a search on the site cos' I know the flip key fob has been mentioned but in the back of my head I thought I read VW flip keys don't work with Galaxy 2.3s.

If I did get a VW one to work does that mean my existing Ford remote won't work straight off as a spare without reprograming

All remotes have to be programmed (up to a max of 4) at the same time, if you program a new remote then any others will become unprogrammed.
