Hi Folk

I need some help/advice - I've done a quick search on the forums but cant find anything that helps so apologies if i've missed it anywhere.

We have the above Galaxy (1.9 Ghia TDi 115bhp) which has had a few faults over the last 6 months - The main problem is the speedo doesn't work. We contacted our warrenty back when prob started - They advised that it would have to go to Main Dealer - Who we contacted - THey advised that there was corrosion on dash board and this is not covered - But they wanted

You mention warranty, how long have you had the vehicle?

If the speedo developed a fault within the first 6 months of ownership and you notified the vendor(dealer) at that point and they declined to make the required repair, then they are rendering the vehicle "not fit fot the purpose for which it was intended" as it can not be driven lawfully (or safely) on the UK's roads without a working speedo.

Try speaking to your local trading standards people they will tell you wether you have a case. Im not refering to your warranty here, im talking about your statutory rights.

Of course if you had the car for more than 6 months before the fault occured then forget everything ive said!

6 months is considered a reasonable period for comlience to the "fit for purpose" regulation by trading standards. They helped me get a new engine fitted to a car bought from fords without warranty.

I had a problem with mine with a "Check Brake Pads" warning which only occured when the bonnet was closed!

This eventually required a replacement instrument panel.

See thread entitled "Fight For Your Rights, My lights now flash!" in "Dealer Service and Reliability (Galaxy)"

during a swap of the instrument panel ford fitted one in which the speedo either did nothing or did over 100mph across the garage forecourt, this was to correct a problem with 1) fuel gauge intermittently reading low 2) invalid 'check brake pad' indicator and 3) incorrect door ajar warning (would tell you that the wrong door was open). Apparently some 2001 gals were fitted with instrument panels from late model mk1 (or something like that - over the transition period)

Eventually they replaced it with another which cured all of these problems and added the cruise control light asa well, they wanted to charge us

Thansk for the responses guys.

The Gal is a 2001 - We've had it now about 12 months - The warrenty we had was from the dealer we bought her from.

The other clocks that are iffy are the fuel gauge and brake check warning - Sometime she says she's overheating but isn't.

They are saying because the "Immobiliser" is in the dashboard then the whole thing needs replaceing and re-programming - Hense the
